Posts: 12 | Some lakes are open in MN and I am curious if I can legally do any muskie fishing before the water hits spawning temperature. I know I would be catch and release only, as the season opens in June. Anyone else fish early like this?

Posts: 1000 | The itch gets pretty bad right now, so I'll preempt your next question: no, removing hooks and casting for muskies still qualifies as harassment of wildlife.

Posts: 58 | There are Musky in the Mississippi further north depending on where you are- I'm not sure of season is closed there as well but you can always cast big lures to target Pike....

(at least where I am I suppose it could be different further north?)

MN Pike season is same as Walleye, May 14 - Feb 26 The Mississippi is only considered a border water south of the Prescott bridge, and yes Pike are open then. Edited by Espy 3/24/2016 9:44 AM
