Hey guys
I'm heading up to Wabigoon for May 21-28th. Obviously I'd prefer a trip when muskies are open, but it's a father/son deal on dad's dollar so I can't complain too much here. Anyway, I've never been up there or to Canada early in the year. I would guess that fishing creek inlets, especially with swampy areas and early cabbage growth would be the ticket for pike (more or less how I'd fish around here in April/early May).

I was figuring a lot of Husky Jerks (4.25-5.5" size), 3/4oz spoons, 1/2-3/4oz spinnerbaits, Mepps #4 or 5s, and maybe some soft jerkbaits or oversized tubes 5-6" class. My PB pike was 43x17.5" from Lac Seul, I wouldn't mind topping that.

Sound like a decent plan? Any advice is welcomed.

Been up early several times, and did really well on big Pike. Walleyes are shallow rock and weedlines, also easy, mid lake reefs were hot for 17" average. We got the pike on medium bass cranks and smaller lures so it was obvious we were NOT targeting muskies. Pike over 40" were inside weed edges, in the reeds on current break areas, and on the reefs just off shore.

Curious as to your Lac Seul Pike?! Great fish. What side of LS were you on? I've fished both the east and west. Now we're on the west end. PM when you get a chance...would love to hear about your LS experience.

Might want to consider a nice HVY duty spinning rod/reel as in this topic...

I would. It would be a blast tossing small Suicks etc.

Good luck on your trip, it sounds fun!

Jeremy.

get a bunch of big hammer swimbaits. I like 5's and 6 1/2's. Run them on various kalins/owner swimbait jigs. We had a hundred fish day last opener working weedlines with them. Not Wabigoon, but it's a silver bullet.
