When you got it hooked what do you want "MOST" between the two???

The picture and possession,,,,,get the net I want him now and a picture holding and confirming it for the scrap book.
Or
The live for the moment,,E-ticket ride run, jump, dive, splash you full of water,,,,even if it means possibly losing it -no picture.

Love to see everybody pick one or the other not perfect world scenarios,,,just would like to see what guys cherish more.

And the fight doesn't mean.playing them to exhaustion.

I've never bothered with photos. I don't know anyone who would really care to look at them.

I'm an in the net now person, the thrill is in the hunt and getting them to eat. If I wanted /cared about how they fight I wouldn't be fishing for muskies. I picked option 1 but had little to do with the picture aspect, I rarely take a photo of a fish under 48.

The fight!
I've lost most of my fish to hard drive crashes and SD card mishaps.
besides, how many 40 something pics does one really need?
50+ ? Yeah a pic is nice and I tend to want to bag em asap.

Ill answer my own question

I'd love to spend time with Charlize Theron,,but,,,"I wouldn't want it to be over in 30 seconds so I can now take a picture with my arm around her"
I want to ride the world's biggest roller coaster not skip waiting in line and instead take a picture of me next to it proving I was there.

I want to live for the moment,I want a fight,,, I don't worry about the picture if it was a good fight ill remember that fish if I lost it. If I don't remember it then it was because it didn't give me any thrills.
Imho,,,to me it seems like a lot of guys especially young ones can't see the forest through. The trees, they fish for muskies because their big powerfull jump unlike pike and are raising holy hell on the end of the line.
But some guys seem like they want all that erased when hooked and instead have them turn into sheep easily led to the corral.

"I want a fight"

I like both answers. When I'm fishing a tournament, obviously I want the fish in the bag and a pic to prove it. Otherwise I want the fight. My mind is my best photo album and a good fish will stay forever....until my mind goes. Then I wont care.

I want the fight.... Anyone can catch a Walleye.
In a Tournament ,I want it in the bag ....Now ! Otherwise, I let the fish be a fish.

I want the fish that kicks my azz during the fight and leaves me leaning against the gunwale, catching my breath and giggling after you finally get er in the bag. Some fish don't let you control the fight.

I don't horse them but I fight them in a way to reduce the chance of them getting off. I've seen fish display their vertical enough times to not want to induce it and risk the chance of losing her. The definition of a Muskie fight/thrill surely varies from person to person. I definitely see your point when watching some Muskie vids.

So all you guys saying you just want a thrilling fight... Your telling me if you danced with a big girl for a little while and had an awesome fight, jumps and splashing, hard runs, then you lost the fish boatside, you wouldn't be devestated, or at least pretty upset? I guess I'm still a lot younger then most on here. But I wouldn't be that guy like " oh well... That was still fun! What a rush! Awesome! " .... I would be like "WHAT THE ACTUAL ***k !!!! "

I was leaning toward the fight etc. until I read "until exhaustion". A good fight is always fun but I want the fish in the net no matter what kind of a fight it gives.

enjoy em ... good point above ... the good ones will provide memories and experiences that won't leave til you start peeing your pants, so why hurry and lose the thrill.

Obviously I'm gonna be in the minority but there have been a number of fish that went 40" (not much bigger than that!!) or so that I never even touched....as in giving her slack and letting her go. No pic. etc.

I like to feel the fight. Not prolonging it much but I'd rather not reach for the net until I have a few runs out of a fish. I live for the take and the tussle... A pic. is nice but unless she's a good fish it's not an issue for me. I've caught some bigguns...so...I love the fight!

Same thing goes in my fly fishing. For me it's that take and the fight...within reason for the fish.

When fishing I am on the hunt and love the satisfaction of figuring out where they are and what will get them to eat, so I have to have the end result: in the net and photo depending on the size and if all goes well. It's a mental game that I can't win if the fish fights and gets off. I don't think I've ever fought a fish on average longer than 20 seconds anyway.

In the net. After getting them to eat, my 2nd favorite part is watching them proudly swim away. I'm probably projecting a bit, but the slow swim off always feels like a polite salute in the spirit of competition. "Until next time, noble adversary"

Really, I prefer that they get me wet when they take off...

ToddM is the Chuck Norris version of a "Musky Guy"! He hits hard with his witty responses. Chuck consults with him on all things muskie related.

Have fun!

Yes, he's a bonafide Internet musky guy/fisherman! But, ToddM really back trolls the back streets of Chicago & Gary Indiana, so he's really certifiably insane and also not right in the head!!

He fishes the sewer and other questionable venues or unlikely waters, so how can he be judged by conventional standards????

Have fun!

Good Question Hooker!
For me it would be the second- however if that once in a lifetime fish hits it would be heartbreaking to not get to lift her out of the net.

My best day of muskie fishing goes back about 15-20 years. I had a small window where I proceeded to have every fish in an area turn on for 2 hours and EAT a Hawg Wobbler. It was insane. I lost count of the number of fish that ate that bait. I would hook up and they would jump 1 - 3 times- bang their head against the side of the boat and proceed to get off. Had one I thought was coming into the boat and I vacated the front deck. Not one fish was boated during this flurry.
Equipment was a big part of why I did not land any of these fish. Rod 7'-6" St Croix premier MH. Abu 6500C. 80 tuff line. Probably some drag slippage and not the stoutest of rods.
Fishing Solo. Half of the fish were over 45" and 1 true giant that missed the bait. Only fish that backed off after coming up behind the bait without getting hooks. Biggest explosion I have ever seen and that wobbler walked out of the white water.

Would put a lot of those fish in the net today. I still consider it one of my best days muskie fishing!

Cool question

Steve
