Anyone tried grinding part of the diving lip down to smaller size yet...say more the size of a shallow running crank lip..?

Before I destroy one of mine trying this I am wondering if anyone has tried this already.

My reason for wanting to do this is to keep the bait a little shallower. Even by keeping the rod tip up and pulling/jerking upward I am having a hard time keeping it in the zone I want.

If no one else has tried this I guess I'll be the guinna pig and give it a whril....

JLong....Help please...:)

Thanks,
nwild

Mark, I agree 100%. While I absouletly love the bait as is, I wish there was also a shallower running version. That thing has just unbelievable action but I too have a big problem if I'm tageting the top three or four feet of the water column.

Jason, any help out there?

They make those suspend dots for making a lure go down. Why not glue a narrow strip of dense foam on the spine?

Yup, it works. Grind off about ¼ inch for starters, do an even grind taking some off the sides of the lip too. You can actually grind a pretty sharp knife edge on the polycarbonate lip. That helps the bait cut through the weeds. You can snip those silly fins off too, you’ll lose the glide, but gain much erratic action. I happen to have some high bouncy ones, but it is possible to cork a suspending one. Just drill a hole into the solid body and do a Sammy Sosa on it. Jointed versions are also easy to make.

I can keep it pretty shallow with my rod tip up. Try a 6" deep diving grandma with the rod tip up. Works great too.
