Every year I say to myself, "You have enough lures that haven't seen the water. You don't need to buy anything else..." The next thing you know, I'm walking out of Blue Ribbon Bait with a lighter wallet and a heavier tackle box.

My question is, how many lures do you buy each year?

Be honest! Remember, the first step is admitting you have a problem..

My name is Ken and I am a musky-holic! I buy lures that I know I will probably never throw in my lifetime!

I try to sell twice as many as I buy but somehow I still have the same number of lures every spring.

I picked 10-20 but I also donate lures I don't use anymore to my club for the flea market coming up in march.

10 - 20 I buy a fair number of baits that never see water though. My wife thinks I am a hoarder, I just say that is our retirement someday.

Have bought 9 already and on a waiting list for 3 or 4 more and haven't been to a show yet. No more rods or reels this year though. I wish I lived closer to bigger muskie lake(s)

Yep....raising my hand to....does insurance cover this type of addiction? The upside is if a burglar ever sneaks into my fishing closet at night he will get stuck to the wall by the 500 treble hooks that are laying loose....

Only 1-5 but I believe that the day you stop looking for the "magic bait," you may as well take up a new hobby.

I agree with Will, I try to sell two baits for every one I purchase. Went with the `No More Baits ' mantra for a few years, but that didn't work out very well. Two for one works much better.

When I started this addiction 18 years ago I bought lures I still have today that have never seen the water.

Now, I would say I buy 5 or less per year and those are just back ups to replace my Go To lures that got beat up last year.

I've come to the conclusion, that for myself, it's all just part of the sport. I buy very few lures once the season starts. Buying baits, for whatever reason, is one of my ways of enjoying the off season. I used to tell myself that I don't need this or that lure. Then I realized that I enjoyed that part of the sport too. With that being said, I generally buy about 20 new lures a year. Maybe a new rod/reel every other year. Tom

I chose 1-5, but sometimes it's zero. I already have enough musky baits in every category and color. Every now and then a "must have" bait appears and I'll pick it up, but I usually just replace worn or broken models that I already have.

I'm always picking up baits for smallies, walleye, and panfish though.

I buy lures for four reasons:

1. It fills a hole/does something that the lures I have do not do
2. It does something that the lures I have do not do as well
3. To replace lures that are falling apart/were lost
4. To be used as backups/replacements for the lures I use frequently

All total, I'd say I am down to about 300. I've given away/donated/sold quite a few in the last several years. If I look at a lure and I can't find a situation/lake where I might be inclined to use it? Gone.

It's easy for me to do that because I spent many years buying lures 10-20 at a time, spending $500 at shows, etc. Bought a lot of stuff that simply doesn't suit how/when/where I fish.

Something we all go through. Gotta have it all before we understand what we really need...

I am still new, this will be my 4th season. I have cut back considerably but still figure to buy about 10.

The addiction starts off slowly, then you go to a Musky show and see custom colors of a lure you all ready have 10 of,it's all downhill from there.

Musky addiction has elements of cocaine addiction, but also is a form or hoarding.

I thought I was hopeless until I read somewhere that Dick Pearson once had something like 15,000. So compared to that I'm a pauper. Lets make it a contest - he who dies with the most wins - - - -

between the Chicago Musky Show, the Milwaukee Musky Expo, the Schaumburg show, and a few swap meets I already passed the 50 mark.

Same here. I already have an arsenal of baits and now I'd rather focus on fishing instead of buying.
