Subject: Tipping Guides?

This is my first year using a guide and was just wondering if there is a customary amount that is expected? I know it depends on all the variables of the trip, but was just wondering what some of you have done for your guides in the past?

think... if you tip a waitress 2 bucks to bring you a few beers compair that to someone putting you on a musky and teaching you to fish. Anyone can bring you a drink, not everyone can showw you how to catch fish

Well, if you go with a customary 15% tip that sounds reasonable..
I have no idea how much a musky guide generally costs, but salmon/trout guides can cost anywhere from $300/$700 per day so 15% puts the tip anywhere from $45-$105.. I would probably customize the percentage to match what I felt the experience was worth as far as friendliness/education-given. I'm not sure how much I'd put on catching fish, though. As no matter who you are or how good you are, there will be days you get skunked, that's life.
