| I've been blessed by the musky gods and have won the st croix Hoo-rag promotion. I feel my luck must be changing as I have been trying to land a musky to no avail in 2 seasons. Anyway I wanted to start using phantoms and swuirko glides next season and from all the reading I have done most guys prefer a 7.5 h/f rod. I currently have an 8 foot 3/4-3oz musky mojo and an 8.5 foot 3-8oz. Musky mojo. The promotion has me winning a free st croix premier rod. I was thinking the PM76HF. Here is the kicker, I can upgrade to the legend tournament jerk 7.5 foot 3-8oz for $140 shipped. I'm torn on what to do? Is the tournament worth the extra money? What would you suggest?

i think the warinty is the same
i have a m/h , h, and xh these cost
the same as 1 ledgend
if your boat has a platform the 8 or 86 will be fine
just have to keep the tip out a little also depends how tall
you are

They're a great rod. IMO, stick with the Premier. |

Location: oswego, il | I am not a fan of shorter rods for anything. I work my rods fairly horizontal across my body rather than vertical so unless I am in my little boat or fishing three I don't need a short rod and at that 8' is short enough. If they make an 8.5' or 9' xxh premere, go with that and if you learn glides and jerks with it, you have a rod that can do more than just throw big plastics.

Location: Grand Marais, MN | I make decisions on rods now based mostly on handle length, which I think you should consider too. I have an 8'h premier, but hate the 14" inch handle, way too short for me. The mojo has 15", and although it's only one inch longer it makes a big difference to me in casting, both in shoulder comfort and casting distance. You'll also have to decide split versus full grip. Just something to keep in mind, the legend tournaments with split grips have longer handles, so if this is important to you it's something to look at |

| Thanks for all the advice so far. I guess I should have stated I will be fishing out of a small 16 foot semi v boat that's close to the water. I've been fishing out of a kayak the last couple of years, but was able to pick up a boat late this fall. Seems like most of the suggestions are for longer rods and sticking with the premier.... |

Location: Grand Marais, MN | I almost exclusively fish from small boats and kayak/canoe, and although I still prefer longer rods even in these boats I have short ones too and they are still great, I just cast farther with longer rods. Length is totally up to you. If you're comfortable with shorter rods and like being able to store them in your car, then it's an obvious choice. |

| Are you stuck with only upgrading to the LT Jerk? The way you phrased the question it sounds like you are, If you aren't, use the 8' Mojo as your jerkbait rod, it'll work fine for 7.5 phantoms and regular squirkos and you will be able to adapt your style to your boat. Then you can upgrade to a Big Nasty or Big Dawg. I'm sure they'll run you more than the $140 upgrade, but they are sweet and very versatile rods. |

Location: Wisconsin | I'm with Toddm... Your 8ft Rod would be just fine for the squirko and phantoms. If I were you I would stick with the premier series, but get the longest and heaviest Rod, since that would expand on the lure sizes you would be able to use (medussa, mag dawgs, etc). Just my opinion, but i think the 8ft mojo is just great for squirkos! |

| I still like a 7'6" rod for WTD top waters or suicks, but those feel more like pool cues now. 8 foot to 8'6" is probably your best all around rod depending on the stiffness rating. If your still trying to get your first muskie I would think versatility. Get a rod style that you don't have yet. Rods are like golf clubs, you don't Usually need to carry two of the same. |

Location: NE Ohio | if your getting it for jerks, get the 7-6 jerk rod, made to do what you want. but if you have in your mind that you want a rod to do other things with then definitely get one of the longer rods. i have the mojo 8-0 MH 1-3 and its a great rod for small spinners and spinnerbaits but it has way to much tip action for my liking to use it as a jerk bait rod. |

| That's exactly what I'm going to do. I feel like I already have some longer rods. It's primarily tiger Muskie in the lake I fish and I believe they like a little smaller bait. I bought 2 baby swuirkos and two 4 inch phantoms for spring. I tried to work them with my 8.5 last Saturday and couldn't get much action out of them. As abonus my boat has a 7.5 rod locker so I would actually be able to store the rod. I'm gong to go with the tournament because I like the split grip. Thanks for all the feedback. I read on here daily. Someday I hope to have something to contribute.
