Posts: 39 | Just picked up a 9' XXH TI Rod. All I can say is this Rod feels great and that James at TI provides great customer service. Also picked up a couple Vexan Walleye rods. Seems like you get a lot of Rod for the money - great prices! Anyway, for the Musky Rod, I'm having trouble deciding between the S and Beast? Will primarily throw Bulldawgs, Medussas, 9" Grandma/Jakes, and then double 10's, and stuff like that. I'd just like to hear opinions from you guys? Yes I know the extra bb in the Beast make it smoother but not sure that really makes a huge difference to me and is worth the extra $150. What I have heard about the Beast that tends to lean me in that direction is the adjustability in the casting settings (forget what they're called but I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about). Mostly concerned about gear ratios though 5.4 bs. 4.9 for my application.

You'll find about $100 difference with some shopping and the complete list of differences can be found in the main threads discussing the reels: https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=10... The biggest difference is going to be the complete set of handles that allow you to get the most out of one Toro Beast reel giving you more speed or more cranking power depending on the need. After that all of the other features easily add up to a value worth the extra money. I would go with the Toro S only if you can't swing the extra coin, but you will love that reel too. You can also swap in the different gear ratios (the gears are interchangeable in all the models, Abu has them on hand) if you decide you want faster or slower too down the line, but most find a quiver of these reels in their arsenal is the way to go.

Posts: 2 Location: Big Eddy Springs | I bought the Abu Garcia Revo Toro Beast high speed last year the day they hit the market. This reel is simply amazing with how it preforms and handles. The beast comes with two power handles, one weighted and one not weighted with 3 positioning holes. The HS has a gear ratio of 6.2:1 and picks up 34" of line per rotation. This is excellent for burning blades or rippin dawgs etc. I have mine paired up with a St. Croix Legend Tournament 8'6" Extra Heavy, Fast Action, 50-80lb, 4-12oz. I absolutely love this set-up and plan on buying the low speed beast this spring. In my own opinion and experience the beast is definitely worth the extra money. Hope this helps. Slime time baby!

Posts: 1283 | I have all 3. The Beast HS and 4.9 and the S. If you can swing it get the Beast. I prefer the HS for most stuff including dbl 9s/10s with the weighted power handle on it. The brakes are better, the drag is better, spool tension knob is better, the reel is smoother and casts farther. Anymore questions? With that said the S is a great reel for the money.
