Regarding wood VS plastic baits. Does paint stay in better shape on wood baits over plastic? I have noticed paint is very thin on my plastic trolling baits and hooks flake it off very easy.

I think with proper prep the paint sticks a lot better on the plastics. My old Suicks, Slammers, Creepers, etc are missing a lot of paint. Not that the fish seem to mind.

If the paint is flaking off it has not bonded to the plastic(each type of plastic is different on what bonds to it), if it is wearing off it is bonded to the plastic which is normal from hooks and fish. If it is epoxy coated it will last longer but still wear off over time. A little super glue on hook rash does wonders. Especially if it is wood as it seals the small holes and prevents water from entering.

All depends on how they were painted and IF they have a clear coat on them.

Good point from Roger on the glue trick too.

Fish must like dead bait. Lol Some of the most mangled up, ugly looking, no paint left baits my partners use, catch fish on a regular basis. When asked if they want those done over they say: "No Sir".
