Posts: 3156 | Don't forget tonite,,Monday is the dnr meeting open to public about input for getting Big Marine lake stocked and a New muskie fishery in the metro ...DNR called the meeting for public input. Would be a great muskie lake and with its size it would take a lot of pressure off the heavy fished east metro lakes. The meeting is at 7:00 pm in Scandia,,,at the Scandia Community center. Posts: 143 | Overall the residents where pretty much 100% not for it. They used all the common "facts" that float around about musky. They eat all the other fish, kill small dogs, and eat their children. They also brought up how they apparently don't like our kind around their neck of the woods, and would prefer musky fishermen/women to stay clear of their lake. From a public standpoint it doesn't look good for us, thankfully the DNR seemed to be all for stocking the lake so we have that going for us. Happy Hookers buddy wasn't kidding about being outnumbered so we should all leave some more comments here: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/muskie/index.html and be sure that we get more of a gathering at the next meetings, such as the one tonight in Pelican Rapids. Lastly, they didn't mention them killing small dogs. [EDIT] Also, theres a statewide meeting to discuss all lakes TOMORROW, from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the Oak Room at the Bunker Hills Activity Center, 550 Bunker Lake Boulevard NW, in Andover. Location: varies | You will never see lake residents approve of stocking a new fish that will bring more traffic to "their" lake Unless it's a resort type owner.

Posts: 318 | I feel like the DNR is smart enough to realize that the majority of the people that were there were probably home owners, and they are smart enough to realize why they dont want a new fish stocked. Not being from Minnesota, is this metro lake the most metro lake to get stocked?

Not being from Minnesota, is this metro lake the most metro lake to get stocked? No, This lake would probably be the least "pressured" metro lake in the area. It is a great lake that doesnt get as much pleasure boaters as say White Bear or Bald Eagle.

Posts: 304 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | I was there as well. Yes we were outnumbered but the DNR is accepting comments on this proposal until Jan 3rd, 2016. We need to speak up. The following is from a DNR e-mail uskie meetings continue, comments welcome The DNR continues to seek public input to help determine if new muskellunge lakes spread geographically throughout Minnesota should be established in 2016. Comments are being taken at public input meetings and online. Lakes being considered are Big Marine in Washington County; the Fairmont chain in Martin County; and Gull chain in Cass County. Two chains of lakes in Otter Tail County are under consideration – Franklin and Lizzie chain, and Loon chain – although no more than one of the three lakes within those chains will be chosen. All but Big Marine are chains of lakes, which would allow some movement of stocked muskellunge to connected waters. The DNR posted signs at accesses of candidate muskie lakes and began talking with local angling groups and lake associations last summer. The final two in a series of input meetings on all the proposed lakes are: • Twin Cities area, Big Marine Lake: 7-9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, Scandia Community and Senior Center, 14727 209th St. N., Scandia. • Pelican Rapids, to discuss the muskie proposal for Franklin and Lizzie chain, and Loon chain, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, Lake Region Electric Cooperative, 1401 S. Broadway. • Twin Cities area, to discuss all proposed lakes, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, Oak Room at the Bunker Hills Activity Center, 550 Bunker Lake Boulevard NW, Andover. Comments also may be submitted via email or postal mail to the following area fisheries offices: • Big Marine: DNR east metro fisheries, 1200 Warner Road, St. Paul, MN 56401. e-mail [email protected] • Fairmont chain: DNR Windom area fisheries, 175 County Rd 26, Windom, MN 56101. E-mail [email protected] • Franklin and Lizzie chain, and Loon chain: DNR Fergus Falls area fisheries, 1509 1st Ave. North, Fergus Falls, MN 56537. e-mail [email protected] • Gull chain: DNR Brainerd area fisheries, 1601 Minnesota Drive, Brainerd, MN 56401. e-mail [email protected] Lets have a good turnout at the Bunker Hills meeting on Dec 9th. Please e-mail comments to all 4 fisheries offices to support these new waters as well. Thank You Steve

Posts: 187 Location: West Metro, MN | I was not able to make the meeting last night, but I did take the time to respond to the website in the original post and write an email to the east metro fisheries office. It only takes a few minutes to write a thoughful email, I would strongly encourage those in the metro area to take the time to show your support for expanding the fishery in the metro. I fished Big Marine a number of times for bass and pike growing up in the east metro and I have always thought that it would be a great lake to stock with muskies. Good structure, nice weeds, clear water, 2 accesses.
