After 25 years fishing Northeastern Ontario it's time to go west.
have a trip booked to Eagle Sept. 10 - 20.
Is this a good time frame in general for muskies? Good time for bigger pike?
Thanks!

That should be a great time, fish activity should be up. We usually got around the last week of August, and always have had good fishing. What part of the lake are you staying in, or which lodge are you fishing out of?

everything will be governed by water temps and weather patterns at the time. period. no predicting only guesses. with seemingly wider swings in weather patterns in recent yrs, what is "normal".? recognizing and adapting is the key and it seems we are learning something new all the time. in sept as water temps drop you can always expect some pike to move up here and there and to catch some and probably a few bigger ones.
warm early fall like last fall , mid 60's water temps mid sept will be very similar to aug in patterns. seen the opposite and high 40's to low 50's and it's like fall fishing patterns. what we like to see in normal mid sept is low-mid 50's and slowly dropping temps a degree every couple days. that being said some of my biggest muskys and also historically in eagles past have been boated in mid to late sept. the pike movement to shallow is generally governed much more by colder water temps than muskys.By far the best time to coincide muskys with big pike in numbers at depths for especially traditional casting is at water temps below 50 especially mid 40's into the high 30's. then in some sections pike 32"-44" can actually be a pain in ass if you'r not specifically targeting them especially of you're running 6-8$ livebaits.
not to worry ,we'll be on it and strive our best to put you on the very best patterns and odds at boating any and all targeted species at the time of your stay.
looking forward to spending time with you and feel free to personally contact as we move though the season and approach your trip for updates ,what to expect, and tips for preparation.

We've gone to AML on alternating years around the end of September. The air temps can be anywhere from in the 30's to in the 60's (like they were this year) with water temps anywhere from the 40's to 60's. That can obviously affect the fishing. Staying at AML, they'll put you on fish and let you know the patterns to look for. Just remember, insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Listen to the staff at AML and you'll do fine. This past year we got a 51", 46", 37.5" and 31 muskies as well as 38.5" pike and 36" pike. It can be a real weird time of year if you're dealing with turnover too. Personally, I'd like to go the 2nd to last week of October or the last week of October with the basin of getting one of those cisco/whitefish chasing basin beasts. September can be real good though too.
