Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | Yep, the axe fell for me yesterday. That would be Thursday the 22nd. My position was "eliminated". Polite way to say we don't need you around here anymore. If any of you guys out there knows of a Maintenance/Mechanical job in Western WI would you be so kind as to let me know? My Email addy is in my profile. This morning was the first time in 20 some odd years that I did not have a job to get out of bed for. This really sucks, will be a change in life styles for me for sure, for a while at least. Just needed to vent a little and maybe with everyones eyes out there I will get back to work soon. Thanks everyone.

| Hang tight dude! I went through a similar deal; went from 40+ hrs., but did work 18 hrs. per week for the past year. Took close to a $20K cut. Had it not been for the mercy and intelligence of the Spongette, I would now be eating insects, grubs and stolen fruit. We won our union grievance last week, so I pop back up to 30hrs per week starting May 31st, which is daggone nigh perfect. File for whatever benefits you can get asap and know that things will work out in the end! * Might I add mine was self inflicted; switched from clerk to the custodial/maintenance craft, but it turned out to be the best move my dumb self has made in my postal career. Don' panic and start selling a bunch of stuff! I am now basically stress free at work, plus I can hide in the dumpster and snack whenever I want... Edited by Sponge 5/23/2003 7:35 AM | |||

Posts: 1936 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Mike, Sorry to learn of this... my thoughts and prayers for getting through this tough time are with you. A couple of suggestions. That new Ford Warehouse in Menomonie is gearing up to open. I know of several others that might be potential leads in that area. I know it's about a 45 minute drive from your house but it beats the hell out of unemployment. Call me on my cell this weekend, I'll be in the boat most all of the three days. 715-579-7463.... Best, Mark

Posts: 155 Location: Watertown MN | Muskyone: If you are interested in the Twin Cities, send me and email or call. We are looking to add some maintenance personnel, we are located close to the Mall. Otherwise menomonie is a nice place, and the tech park has shown some great growth in the last 10 years there. Good luck, Troyz [email protected] 952-887-7717

Mike, We've been hammered here in IN as well. Caterpillar here in Lafayette laid off 250 this past spring. But, as we try to be philisophical about these matters one can only say as they go out to look for work, "Well, I was looking for a job when I found my last one!" God WILL provide. That's my prayer for you and your family (and mine as well). Keep us posted. Steve

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | It is important to take a couple of days to "boo-hoo why me". At the same time fish a little bit, do things which get your mind off your old position. Enjoy your family, do things that you wouldn't normally have time for. Then put that behind you. start making a list of your attributes, your skills, and things that you enjoy doing. This is not a time for false humility. Next make a list of personal contacts such as bankers, doctors, minister, friends and aquaintences who are successful, and start speading the word that you are looking for opportunities. In general, want ads, and employment services are secondary to networking "word of mouth" referrals. This could be a chance for you to do something that you would have never thought of before. Do you have hobbies or interests that you are good at which could be considerations? God always has a plan. After the first couple of days, get positive and stay up beat. The problem isn't you, downsizing has happened to thousands before, and it will keep happening. Just keep a positive outlook, work on maintaining or improving your work ethic. Treat looking for a job as if it was a job. You said that you were in maintenance work, do you have the skills to do side jobs for cash while you are looking? Best of luck and God Bless!

Posts: 5874 | Mike, I know it comes as a shock, but trust me on this. You will end up with a better job, and better life as a result. It happened to me several times, and I always ended up better off than I was. Take some time to vent, like SVL said, and know that things will work out. Good luck, my freind. If you need to talk, give me a call. You got the number.

Posts: 827 Location: Minneapolis,Minnesota | M1, Very sorry to hear that...just about every friend I have has been laid off or downsized in the last year. I had to take a heart wrenching move from Minneapolis to Chicago 6 months ago, leaving behind all my friends, girlfriend and the best musky fishing in the country if you ask me. For me it was move or lose your job....after moving here I came to the conclusion that there are worse things than having to start a new career. You livein my sales territory and I have many customers in your area, I will be more than happy to do some snooping around and see if anyone needs a good guy. Keep your head up...

Posts: 3918 | Trying to ensure the job security of our 250 employees in these economic times has become the biggest challenge in my job as CEO. Money is drying up everywhere, and it looks like the trends will continue, at least for a while.

Posts: 96 | I'm praying for you guys. I believe the massive job losses are related to the fact, that nearly everything is made in China or a third world country. We don't make anything anymore. No industry, no jobs. I travel on my job and everyhere I go I see closed factories. When I ask locals what industry is in their town, they usually say Wal Mart. That is scary. Until our goverments figure out ways to limit imports I think the job market will suffer. Try to buy USA and Canadian products. This is the only answer that I know. God bless America! musky39

Posts: 3918 | I was once downsized out of a job. It felt horrible at the time, but looking back it was a very good thing because it opened up possibilities that I would have never gone after. "Good things happen over time, great things happen all at once." Hang in there!!!!

| Mike, You know I'll bring a whole different outlook on this! hmmmm.... no job and Muskies just opened!!! SUPERB!!! Guess what? I lost my job as well due to the fact my boss was a $^%^*&$# and I won't put up with it. Things happen for a reason. Let's go fishing and talk. 763-227-7653 Shady | |||

Posts: 109 | It's a shame you guys live on the other side of LM. I'm over here in MI with no job due to having a crappy management team and letting them know what I thought about it, we could have a jobless fishing adventure ending with a bar and a few beers.

| One door closes and another opens. I know exactly how you feel because I got caught up in all the changes at Fishing Hot Spots just a couple weeks ago. I put the word out immediately and ended up with another position and the offers are now coming in. There are now more opportunities all of a sudden and I've got to worry about making a choice rather than be concerned about being "unemployed." The only pressure now is what you put on yourself. Capitalize on that and find something you WANT to do...not something you have to do. You'll do great, good luck! Mike Michalak | |||

Posts: 1536 Location: God's Country......USA..... Western Wisconsin | I want to thank you all for the support. While I have not found anything yet I am keeping at it. Not many openings in our area but I am hopeful of something turning up soon. Keep up the good thoughts for me and the others without work. Keep your eyes and ears open as we all could use a little help now and then.

Posts: 3918 | Hi Mr. Mike, What are your interestes and skills? Either post here or send an e-mail to my work, [email protected]. We're not hiring, but I'll sure look around a bit. Plenty of great fishing around here, too, my friend. Say, if I help you, will you let me be your partner in a future musky tourney? Rick
