Fishing the lower half of st Clair and upper Detroit I have used alter road ramp before but is there any others close by that at least look safer! Never have had any problem at alter but looking for alternatives. Thanks

9th street it's the next closest to the mouth of Detroit River, but I think is closed by November, the other would be Wyandotte ramp on the river, I do not use the Alter road I herd some bad things

Check out Reid Memorial Ramp/Park. It's on St. Jean Street. Little suspect but I've never had a problem there. PM me with any questions.

It's Detroit.....Broken into cars, stripped wheels, stolen trucks, stolen trailers....etc.

Couple nicer ramps, a little North of Detroit on LSC, I'd recommend before Alter or St Jean.

9 Mile Municipal
Blossom Heath
Crocker Rd

There's very few ramps on the Michigan side of the Detroit River that are open at this time of the year. Most have closed for the season as of Oct. 31st. The only choice on the Michigan side of the river is the Alter Rd. ramp, Harrison St. ramp (Rotary Park) in Trenton, and Lake Erie Metro Park. The last 2 are in the lower river & would be a long haul to fish the upper.

The other options would be to launch out of the DNR ramps & the closest to the river is the Crocker ramp (Clinton River Cut-Off ramp). The city owned 9 Mile ramp is closer but I'm 99% sure they closed for the season on Oct. 31st.

Another option would be to launch on the Windsor side at Lakeview Park Marina, which I believe costs around $25 to launch.

I have been launching from the Alter ramp for almost 10 years now & have never had any issues (knock on wood). The owner of the ramp lives in the red house right next to the ramp & he keeps an eye on things plus the U.S. Border patrol guys drive through the lot frequently & I've run into them several times on my way back in. The only issues with the Alter ramp is water levels. Usually in the fall the water level is too low to get most bigger boats out but this year shouldn't be an issue because of the high lake level.

I just check the St. Clair Shores website & ALL 3 of their boat ramps are closed for the season. Only the 9 Mile ramp (Chapton Harbor) is open to the public & the other 2 are for city residents only. http://www.ci.saint-clair-shores.mi.us/index.aspx?NID=473

Headed up on Thursday never been up there before. These post make me nervous about leaving my truck and trailer in a lot unattended. Canada side is not an option as i want to spend my money in the United States of America, i am just a proud patriot with no sensable reason to leave the country which has been so good to me. Can anyone give me some reassurance as to where to launch? Thanks

Has canada ever been "bad" to you? I make a good portion of my living from canadians coming down and spending their money in our country. If youre worried about your truck at a launch ramp in detroit, that sounds like a pretty sensible reason to go to canada... Especially if youre not used to urban fishing, (I do it all the time, doesnt bother me)... But if youve never been there, you might come to the realization of how sensible the other side of the river sounds once you arrive. Also, almost all of the good water (and all the muskie fisherman) is in canada anyways... So unless you dont mind traveling back and forth from canadian waters without calling into the canadian government every time you do or are content just fishing marginal water, it might be more sensible to just cross the bridge into canada once and fish freely wherever and whenever you please.
Good luck.

I Like the PROUD PATRIOT !! Military family here so I also am very committed to the USA---I rarely buy anything off a shelf without looking to see where it's made---the USA has been good to me and my family so I am with the PROUD PATRIOT----------BUT -- It's CANADA !! I would take the GREAT SUGGESTION---because I am very Familiar with DAMAGE to a friends vehicle while fishing the Detroit River--right where you are talking about--AND EVEN I--would take the advice and do the CANADA thing---you will be happy with that choice...

Just a heads up--- Lakeview Park only has ONE ramp open---they came in and shut off the "casters area" all the way back to the "OUT RAMP" with fencing over the last weekend. There were TONS of rigs in the parking lot but still plenty of room for everybody.
