Did anyone see the segment on Midwest Outdoors where they were muskie fishing on Lake Webster. I didn’t catch the whole segment but I was rather disturbed. 2 Guys casting mono no leader spinnerbaits for skies. I don’t have too much a problem there as I do the landing approach. The one guy practically dove in the lake scooped up the musky in his hands (Not Net) and held it for the cameras. I know the fish was cpr’d but now the whole viewing area thinks that’s the way to handle these fish. It was kinda funny to watch. You would think that a show would try to educate the public as to “Best Practices” or something along that line.

You have to remember you are talking about Indiana folk.

Just kidding around, but as you know as well as I do, on Webby you will come across several boats in a day that are using spinning reels with mono, no net, no bolt cutters, no jaw spreaders, etc.....

That's just the way people do it around here. I have tried to educate some and explain the importance of these tools, but it is very hard to teach people who are set in their ways.

I agree with Mike. I'm from Indiana and have fished Webster a half dozen times or so. I find it very hard to leave my ultralight rod at home when going after musky. It just doesn't seem sporting to use a leader and super braided line when casting a 10" Jake. Someday, I may just catch a musky.....if I can ever keep from snapping rods and breaking 6# mono.

Remember in situations like this that the key is in educating the anglers in the area. Talking bad about them only gets people Pis$ed Off at each other and rarely if ever does anything positive to improve the situation.

I would seriously consider writing the producers of the show and the hosts of the show and in a tactful way describe why it is so important for them to show proper methods on their shows. They too might be uneducated (ignorant) to how/why the proper handling of Muskie (or any fish for that matter) is crucial to the success of the "release" portion of CPR fishing.

Sounds like a great opportunity for the Muskie Clubs in the area to do some public relation/education work.

I saw the segment also, and it was kind of a joke. The segment would be perfect as a "What not to do when fishing for the mighty esox". Those guys should know better, but what can you do?

Yeah I saw the show seeing I can't do anything else other than watch tv and get on the computer. I was thinking the same thing. The musky they did catch wasn't even that big. It might have been a long fish but it sure was skinny. Some of the bass they caught were nice. And thats what they should've been fishing for! And as for them getting educated as to equipment and stuff like that. I bet like a couple others mentioned that those people have heard everyone tell them that they should get new equipment and everything else, but being so set in their ways it is hard to prove your point.
