Location: varies | what would your preferred catch be... way out at the end of a cast, smacks it when it hits the water or after a few cranks? In your face on the 8,oval, "L" ? Using live bait or jigging catch? Oops.. forgot trolling.. since I cant alter, Check "way out" end of cast. Edited by rodbender 10/7/2015 7:08 AM

Posts: 705 Location: Alex or Alek? | Only having 5 fish total in my career, 2 boatside and 3 far out. The excitement of boatside is hands down the best.

Posts: 400 Location: Metro | I would have to agree that boatside is the best. BUT I checked far out because I have yet to catch a musky "way out". I have a feeling the fights would be a lot more fun because the fish has more room to run.

Posts: 143 Location: La Crosse, WI | We've talked about this out on the water when things are slow. Boatside hits are awesome and probably the most exciting strike. Topwater hits are also hard to beat but having one pound a ripped bulldawg or crank bait is pretty cool too. I guess I'll take them anyway I can!

Posts: 470 | The one that eats one of the kids lures is the best for me. Other than that; I'll take 'em any way I can get 'em. That being said a Hot Follow and eating it in the 8 after a couple of passes can only be beat by the boatside blow up while night fishing IMO. RandalB

Posts: 1146 | Catching a fish in the 8 is about exciting as it gets. But this time of year, a quick zip from the clicker as a fish hits a sucker and rips line out is hard to beat. Love that sound!

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | We used to not care about catching them in the 8, we wanted a prolonged fight. But then it became obvious that hooking them with a foot of line out number one, didn't guarantee a short fight, and was more action packed per second, and also became quite the challenge that we now almost prefer them to eat in the 8. But as most are saying above, any way we can get em...

Posts: 1828 | The biggest sense of accomplishment comes when I catch a fish ON PURPOSE, meaning that I had made decisions, tactical changes, and executed moves that "earned" me the bite. So, boatside fish really fit that description. I also love catching one with a throwback lure that had previously followed. Or when fishing is slow and you make changes that result in fish. Those are the fish that I remember most and feel best about. It is also extremely satisfying to net someone's first musky.

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Nothing like sitting in your reclining chair, steering the boat, drinking your 9th soda, 5th bag of chips and hearing that rip, rip ,rip! You reach back hit the auto reel button on your trolling reel and then auto deploy net. When the net retracts to the recliner hold the fish for the photo!

Posts: 395 Location: Northern Illinois | One of the one's I like the best is when you are reeling in and watching your lure closely and you can see (into the water) the whole violent strike coming out of nowhere - only 5 to 20 feet from the boat Edited by mm3 10/7/2015 11:02 PM

Posts: 48 | You forgot about the trolling hit. Before my accident I never trolled, but now that's all I can do and have learned to love it. Hearing a tight set drag rip out at 4.5 mph and seeing that it ripped out 40 feet of line is hard to beat. I do miss my follows and boat side strikes but love to hear that bait click

Posts: 3156 | I want it to hit has far away has possible that way I get more chance of a jump and a table dance and it in control for a while, and best case scenario so long has it isn't a tournament or personnel best have it throw the hooks at the side of the boat after you get a good look estimate, got the thrill, fight and don't have to mess with the hooks.

Posts: 171 | I really haven't caught enough to be picky....but way out is fun, especially if it goes nuts and jumps. THAT's a thrill for me. I had a 37" fish jump 3 times and finally got the 2nd treble of the bulldawg caught in his tail....rendering him an "O" that could not move. Easy net job, but scary hook removal!

Posts: 246 | I voted for the fish on the 8 but a fish is a fish. Love the heart attack out of nowhere fish at boatside but I also love the tap tap fish on a glider and the rip of a trolling reel.

Posts: 8826 | Figure 8 fish are a lot more fun. But when they eat out on a cast it's a lot easier to keep them hooked.

Location: MN | Depends. If it's a thick strong river fish I'll take it out on the end of the cast so I get to enjoy the power of the fish a little longer. If it's a lake fish I'll take it on the 8 for the thrill of watching it eat. I want to catch one jigging. Looks like a blast!

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | ARmuskyaddict - 10/13/2015 8:03 AM No noodling option? I can just imagine ToddM working on his noodling option strategy for fishing up "North" by Sled... ToodM - Here's a potential new method for late falll sucker fishing w/Sled. Those boat side hits should be pretty dramatic too..as would be the boat conversation post strike/catch. https://www.facebook.com/extrafmLT/videos/10154271043727588/?pnref=s... Have fun! Al

Posts: 25 Location: Brampton Ontario Canada | Love to see the follow and watch as they smash your bait boat side on an "8". Had one hit a jake on "8" from directly underneath and launched itself 3 feet out of the water. This happened one foot from the boat. Best strike ever!!
