| The MN DNR is considering stocking a local lake with muskies. The lake is about 9000 or so acres. I know several factors come into play but on average how long does it take from the initial stocking until fishable numbers of >30" fish are present?......Just daydreaming on a cold fall morning in MN..... Maybe I should grab my fly rod and head over to Mill Lacs?? |

Location: Otsego, MN | Depends on what size they stock from the start. Some lakes when they introduce muskies they actually put some larger fish in right away and then add additional fingerlings. I like it when they start with a few dozen adult fish to try and get the spawning process going. |

Location: Contrarian Island | correct, often times they will put in adults and fingerlings the 1st year... those of course will be bigger faster... a fingerling introduced to a new MN water I'm told can hit 50 in 10-12 yrs...MN DNR puts all their stocking info on their website

Location: Hayward, Wisconsin | Mississippi River strain muskies have been proven to grow "up to" 54 inches and 38 pounds in just 10 years...not all of them, but the potential is there! |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | The first fish stocked in any water always grow faster than future plants. This can be attributed to the fact that they have near zero competition for preferred forage throughout their life. This isn't MN of course but here in MI it's not uncommon for those first year females to reach 40" by their 4th year and 45" before they are adults and start trying to spawn at age 6-7. |
