Posts: 9 | With a growing family I'm going to have to go to a fish and ski next year. Which one of these boats would you guys like better for musky fishing ?

Posts: 102 | Neither. 1860 Angler w/ rails on the front so you are allowed to seat people up there. Better fishing platform, and will do everything ski/pleasure for your family needs. Reata's are nice, but are more pleasure boats than fishing boats. 1860 Angler is more fishing than pleasure, but pleasure is still very nice in them.

Posts: 227 | 1860 angler is no longer produced; it is replaced by the 1880 Angler. The 1880 is rated for 175 hp which is an underpowered rating. Mine is a dog.

Posts: 716 | I have ridden in a number of Reata/1860's which share the same hull with 1880's with 175's and they were far from dogs unless you call great holeshot and a 50mph top end a dog. If yours doesn't do that you may need a different prop. And yes the hull (running surface) is the same on the 1850's 1860's and 1880's. My experience has been that the 175 Verado gives the best performance on that hull...higher price as well of course. Re: the original question the biggest difference you'll likely notice is going to be the size of the cockpit, the layout of the 1850 Reata allows for more floor space....IMO this allows for a better Muskie fishing setup...large tackle boxes, room for big nets and big rods etc. These boats fish two for muskies (front and rear decks) no problem. Three gets a bit tight with two up front.

Posts: 227 | I am running a 175 pro xs...still a dog... very poor hole shot with limited top end... two person muskie boat but in a pinch for a few day 3 would be doable...however it is a good stable fishing platform and would be a safe boat for a family...it is still a dog in the water and nowhere close to a Fisherman, but the price is easier to afford.... Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | you should get an immediate hole-shot and mid 50's performance with that motor ... if not then you're not judging it fairly or yours is not set up correctly as stated above.

Posts: 32886 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I bet he's correct. I'd bet your ride is not propped correctly. You may also need to check your motor height. Dead giveaway is max RPMs below the recommended, and a bad hole shot. What's your WOT tach reading? I ran an X190 with a 175 XS and had a 4 second hole shot with mid 50's loaded speed. Not all that different a hull. It's worth the try to reprop the boat, you may really be happy then.

I have an 1860 as well....I am pretty pleased with it, for the most part. It is certainly a 2 person musky boat, but with 2 people you will fish effectively with plenty of room for all your junk. I have taken others out for joyriding as well and it's pretty easy to have 4 in there without all the musky junk. Very safe, stable platforms. The boat is certainly not a speed demon...but I wasn't expecting it to be. Not sure what 50+mph would get me over 48. Don't really care at this point in my life about that... I wanted a nice shiny ranger, as new as I could afford, with a 4 stroke engine that requires little maintenance. And that's what I got...
