I recently fished with a fellow many know on this board, Mikie MuskyVirgin also known as 3M, also known as Mikie. I had a very good time fishing with Mikie. I hoped my limited knowledge of Cave Run and its weeds coming up, and my past May success in other years, would enable me to help MMM catch his first musky. That was not to be the case though. It was unreasonably tough. As the day went on and kind of ripened I really thought we were gonna score. As it drew toward dark and fish started to show before the rain came in, I was very confident. Just a matter of time. However, I ended up scratching and clawing to catch even one small musky. I had to use every trick in my Cave Run Book(2) to catch him.

Now Mikie as a fisherman is pretty good material to catch a first fish. He has plenty of talent, he is thorough, he keeps his bait in the water, but I was wondering...well, Mikie has a real fast boat. Mikie's boat is in fact faster than at least one of the cars I have owned, and it goes faster than I ever wanted to drive two of the wrecks I had on the road over years past.

To get off the subject a little, when I used to live in the WI part of WI I used to pheasant hunt hard and long, sometimes with dogs. There was a phenomena spoken of by the dog men which occurred when a bird flew and then landed in drylands, on a dry day, called "air washing", ie the bird lost its scent, become "air washed" after a flight, and landed basically with low, or no scent for the dogs.

Ever since fishing with MikieMuskieVirgin, I have had little desire to go out there and pound. I also have not been having luck when I did. Now, slowly, after about 2 weeks I am starting to recover the fever. I started the lawnmower without priming it yesterday, and the dog came back the other night after running out past chain length and realizing she was free. So, things are going my way again, not like some of the unfortunate things and blah feelings of the prior two weeks.

So here is the question, is the excessive speed generated by Mikie's boat possibly the cause of his lack of fish? Have I been airwashed by the OHIO BLOW JOB I got up at Cave, ridin around in Mikie's Rocket? Is that why my fishing libido and general luck in life has been at a low ebb for a while?

The other more scary question that remains, if it is not possible to be "air washed" as I fear I have been, is MikieMuskyVirgin actually cursed, and if he is cursed, can one catch it from him?

Personally as a man of science, I fear no curse, while I shake my chicken foot in the air at it. I hope Mikie catches one tomorrow, but if not I hope that I am with him when he gets it. He has an open invitation to fish with me any time he feels the urge, and I have left definite urge instructions with him for next October. Anybody have any insight on this problem?

P.S. Mikie, if you feel like coming down for a day let me know and we will take MY boat next time, and also I will let you wear my lucky fish, heck, both of them if you want. I have never been skunked when wearing my luck fish around my neck. I am sure it will work. Also it would probably be better to NOT have a camera on board, helps with the size thing ya know....;-)
P.P.S. You WILL have to keep your polaroid glasses on ALL DAY...

Perhaps the blinding speed of Mikie's rig caused a slight rift or rip in the fabric of time and space, causing a tiny view of a parallel plane of existence where muskies are sentient beings ( so there they would be, by logic, harder to catch). Then again, maybe not.

I can comment on the curse thing. Slamr cursed so many individuals on this board the government resorted to a mass chemical eraditcation of the curse using airplanes.;-)

I'm quite sure that you cannot be cursed from catching muskies. The musky Gods are just making him put in his time and with proper work ethics it will come soon. Even slimmer is the chance (if it exists) that the possible curse would be contagious. Musky hunters can have as many superstitions as pro baseball or hockey players tho. I'd get rid of him until he proves himself while fishing from isolation (his own boat). Ha ha, just kidding. Just keep frothing up the water and she will turn up.

Albert says energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. Play around with the equation and you'll find that time slows down as you approach the speed of light. In theory, time will reverse itself as you exceed the speed of light.

This must have someting to do with Mikie's "relative" success.

Call Mikie "Cornbread", it's a fitting handle.

Dude, I think I found our problem for that day. In you cooler, you carried BANANAS. Now, I'm not talking about banana-colored sledge baits, but real, honest-to-gosh Chiquitas. Now, granted, I'm still new to the sport and have a LOT to learn, but seems I recall a thread on this board or the MC board that relates bananas-on-board to a noticable lack of fish. Can this be true?

Now, it could have been the wild ride that got you shook up; I tried to consider your advancing years but also the time-on-the-water factor, racing against a coming electrical storm when I set my speed. We did need to cover some water. Even Mauser had to get on me the next day for bouncing his spleen against his vocal chords on the run from Zilpo to Warix.

I sincerely appreciate the spots and techniques you showed me. Anyone who will take time to take me fishing is more than just all-right. I just wish I had my new Frabill when you boated that muskie. I'll post the photo when my kid gets his scanner working again. It is surely front-page material. thanks again, m

LOL, you wanna fish with me in the fall, you don wanna post dem pictures, son........!

Besides that, everybody would steal our secret spot if they saw the background.

I will think about this, probably have to consult Sponge on the banana thing. It is true I normally don't carry bananas, but heck, how was I supposed to know what they eat in the "Ohio Navy"? Just wanted to make sure you didn't starve...you didn't see the animal crackers buried under them didja?

I had a worm,
it walked a mile,
but it could walk no further...
When it got there,
the cooler was bare,
and it could eat no sherbet...

Mikie, you are correct! Bananas are bad luck! Never have them in the boat! An old Hawain taught me that. Somebody brought bananas on board, he convinced me to throw them out when nobody was looking and BANG, 3 mahi mahi over the next 10 min.

Remember, it's NEVER the fisherman, it's always something else

hmmm.........I had bananas on the boat last time we were out mikie, maybe the jinx isn't you, maybe it's the bananas. NAH, you're jinxed, I'm convinced. BTW, I dropped that map in the mail the other day, let me know when you get it.

OK, OK. The photo stays with me. It is a long walk home from the backside of Green River, I guess.

The Buckeye Navy is having some trouble with high, fast, dirty water. I actually went, well, barse fishing the other day. Piedmont was good to me, though, in that regard. Looks like more rain this weekend, just what we don't need. best wishes for great big fishes, m
