Just received a Musky Innovations Spring Dawg in the mail to try out. But good lord during a steady retrieve, this thing swims like its drunk. I don't understand. It either rocks and sways back n forth, or lists to one side. And the tail doesn't seem to be working right. I don't see any defects with the bait, so is there something I might be doing wrong?

I have a Micro Dawg that runs great, no problems there.

You might try to ad just a touch of weight to the belly hook and see what that does. Just a little soldering wire wrapped around the base of the hook. Plus a drunk dawg will catch more fish vs a sober straight dawg...

Really? Even though it looks so unnatural?

As long as they don't roll 360 and twist the line, i like if they make some wierd stuff once in a while.

Random and wild action will trigger fish. Straight and steady will catch a lot less.... I fish far less than pro guides and tournament winners. Listen to them, not me

You can try bending the head down a little. That should help it run a little straighter for you.

And a chunk of rubber coming through the water is natural????
Any erratic bait always gets more attention than a "natural" one. I've seen schools of suckers swim around muskies during the spawn, yet when I hook into one that "unnatural" struggle trips a switch on those muskies like you wouldn't believe and real quick.

Ok then...good to know. Now it makes me wonder why my Micro Dawg is OT swimming all wonky.
