Does anyone have problems with undertakers poping out of the water. Am I fishing them too fast. I just picked one up a couple of weeks ago, and I tried it last weekend, but it seemed keep running up to the top even if I let it sink. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Joel

If your undertakers are popping out of the water....send them to ME!!!

I love the soft touch ones that run high!!!

BABY TAPS....with mixed quick...but soft taps. Its not a suick or a reef hawg. Palm your reel and use only your wrist to work the bait.

Thanks Jason,
I'll keep that in mind. I just have to get used to the "touch"
I'll let you know how I do. By the way, here's a fish I got on Sat. on Okauchee. Hope you like it.

Tuffy1,

Wasn't it nice fishing Saturday on Okauchee? Very few boats with the WMT on Pewaukee. I was out with KLY, and I think I saw you in the early morning in the bay by the launch. We were in my red Lund Esox Angler. No fish for us, but I had a follow on an Undertaker, and Kyle got a 28" pike on a Slammer DB. Had one rip on a sucker, and it was dropped right away. Would have been a very nice fish, judging by the tooth marks on the sucker.

That is a very nice fish you got. Congrats.

I have to agree with Jason. Baby taps, or ay least work it really slow and subtle. I have 2 that work high, and 1 that works deep. I didn't like the shallow running ones untill I started moving fish on them, and not the deep one. Last year I missed a very BIG fish working the undertaker like a jackpot on the surface, and letting it deep below the surface evry once in a while.

Good luck, and stick with it. Just have to learn the best way for that one particular lure.

Joel,

Listen to Jason, he is the master!!!!!!!!!:)

The Undertaker is a great lure, breaking the surface every once in a while is a GOOD thing. Nice little taps is all it takes to get this bait dancing. Mix it up and move it fast, give it a good tap and then let it rest, a couple more light taps and your working it, like I said, let it break the surface every once in a while, this will trigger a stike or two.

Good luck!!!

Hey Tuffy,
Keep at the undertaker, they are awesome baits. I usually find a cadence soft tap, tap, tap, tap and keep with it. Very monotonous but that is how I like to run them. If it naturally rolls or dips so be it. I can't handle working it slow enough were it is a few feet under.
I was wondering where you contacted your fish(general structure type)? Shep and I pitched baits all day and Shep was the only one to see a fish close to a lure? Just wondering what you did that got one to go?
take it easy
Kly
p.s. Shep we are two for two now with getting suckers throats sliced by big fish, maybe time to go to a 10 hook quick strike rig.lol

Thanks for the info Ralph. I will stick with it. I was just a little unfamiliar with the bait. Sounds like I need to pick up a few more to see the differences in the baits. I needed a reason to pick up some more baits. Heh Heh Heh. Travis, I will be out there this weekend as well, so if you see me, stop on by. I have the grey and maroon Tuffy. Hopefully the lake will be as good with the Muskie Inc tourney this weekend.

Good lungen,
Joel

Sorry Shep and Kly, maybe I should watch the names in the posts. If you guys are out there this weekend look for my boat and say hi. We raised 5 fish that day. 2 could've been caught if my partner new how to figure 8. It was his first time out. We mooved most of our fish on 6" Jakes. They were all in 7 fow or less. The 48"er was caught short line trolling a Jake over the shallow weeds. We new the fish were there and wanted to make sure that they saw our baits. One thing to note, we were trailing a sucker as well and none of the follows even looked at him. Hopefully this weekend is good.
See ya on the water

I sort of break tradition working the Undertaker most of the season. I use it alot long casting to shallow cover and stones, say a breakline from 3' to 12'.  I start the retrieve with a pop down, then start walking the lure across the near surface like a topwater until I am about half way back, or at the edge of the breakline. I then let the bait settle for about 5 seconds, and start nose up, then down with taps and side to side, but a bit faster than most. When the bait is about 5' from the boat, another pause, and a downward tap sends the bait in a dive to start a wait---then 8.

I'll second the notion that any 2 undertakers can sure have a lot different action.

Did you hear the suggestion about wrapping an undertaker with a big Lindy Tube? Somebody else came up with that idea, but I named it....

"RUBBERTAKER"

get it? 'cause you gotta wrap that rascal just like...

Thinking about picking up an Undertaker. Those of you that have had success with them, what are your favorite colors?? Any help would be appreciated.

I personally have a Firetiger for fishing Pewaukee, but when I was at Rollie and Helens, I did see some other good colors. Check out their web site for the different patterns, and fit the right color to the lakes you fish. They also have a brownish sucker pattern I believe, that looks pretty good. Hope this helps.
Good Lungen,
Joel
