We have been fishing in the angle for about 4 days and have a couple left. The fish seem to be moving and biting. We have had follows and fish on all kinds of baits and at all kinds of spots. No real pattern. I have done very well for myself so far and have bagged a 51, 44,43.5 Musky and a 40.5 Pike. My buddy has not done so well and his only musky was a 34. He had lots of fallows and bites including many in the 45" range.

My 51" is a PB and my first over 50. I am thinking of doing a mount, any idea how much replicas from Lax cost? Just to give me a rough idea.

Don't know specially about Lax but your probably in the $700-$800 range and then add the cost of any plaque or driftwood you might want rather than the plain fish.

If you're not in a huge rush, I would wait until the show season. LAX and Fitantte usually run a discount. I have a Fitantte mount that is very well done. I would take a look at both and decide what you like.

I bet you could ask Lax himself, or checkout his web page.

Lax is about 13 or 14 bucks an inch. Check his site. Sometimes they run 10% off at the musky shows too.

Congrats on your first 50...it's a special time you'll always remember.

Thanks for the comments, I finally put together the video of the 51". I had a Gopro hat cam on for all of my bigger fish this year. Enjoy. Excuse any profanity.

Nice video

Just remember to tell the net man to breathe when trying to net the giant!

I need to remind myself to breathe when fighting the big one. By far the biggest fish either one of us has caught so it was fairly chaotic. Hopefully better next time.

He does, I have tried to give him pointers but he is slow to adopt them (like holding the bag up until it is time). Thankfully it hasn't cost me a fish yet.

I would have smacked your net man right in the back of the head haha....drives me nuts when people try to net fish when they aren't coming head first on TOP of the water. Big fish tend to make everything we know go right out the window haha

You are right, He absolutely is. I thought I might see him after the day I caught the 51" but never did again. Next year he will be getting a good tip for turning me onto that spot.

Giant head, awesome video of the strike. gorgeous fish.

2 cents

PS. Net stays out of the water, and the net man should hold the bottom of the net tight. Fish can run into the outside of the bag and the lure gets caught. Net man shouldn't put net in the water until rod man says go she is ready.

Thanks, We are going to really have to work on our netting protocol. We each made plenty of mistakes. Both on the 51" and the 46" from last year he had the net in the water when the fish was deep beneath the boat and I was bringing the fish up. I yelled both times for him to take it out of the water to avoid that issue.

Here is the question I am struggling with and I could use your input on. You have seen the videos so... Do I need to be fighting these fish a bit longer to make netting a bit easier? When we finally netted the 51" it was obviously a perfect time but my buddy and I, in general, try to net as soon as possible to prevent stress on the fish (we are fishing with mid 70's water temps). Should we wait on all fish until they are to the point where the 51" was or just as soon as we got a shot with head first and near the surface of the water?

You did a fine job.
Net the fish as soon as u can if you can get the head or fish up near surface at net and coming in head first. Let your net man know it is time and have home thrust down and forward - do not try to sweep the heavy mesh through the water - lift far edge of rim up.
I could have landed that fish for you in 1/3 the time. I am great at netting biggies - not so great at landing them myself. Lol.
We have netted monsters in 10 seconds that were still head shaking at the boat after initial hookup and at times have had lengthy tussles. Sometimes it's just destiny and they come off - you will then find yourself obsessing about what could/should have been done differently for say six months or so. Been there. Aggravating - but I always Come back for more.

Anytime the fish winds up in the bottom of the net you've done things right. The longer you keep the fish from hitting the net the more likely you will lose that fish. Especially a big fish like your 51". Nice fish Tim!
