Wow! I discovered a new fishing buddy last night. Took my 3 year old son out for his first fishing trip. Holy crap can that kid fish!!!!! Relentless determination. First fish he reeled in was a 25 inch pike on daddy's pole.... but he had more fun yankin' bluegills with his snoopy pole. The less the fish bit.... the more determined he got. Also, I was reminded just how much fun floatin' a worm can really be. I actually forgot about muskies for an hour or two. I didn't think that was possible!

Looks like I have found a new passion over muskies... and that is fishing for bait with my boy! Seeing his interest in the sport, however, I suspect both of us will be chasin' ski together real soon. Life is good.

One Happy Daddy today!!!

Jason,

That is one of the coolest things with kids. My 7 yr old girl still makes me smile everytime she brings in any size fish. She's getting good at slip bobbering for eyes, and also crappies. And she just loves being in the boat with me when I'm fishing ski's. I guess now that you have a new partner, you won't be able to fit me in for a "work" outing!

Fantastic......

Sorry I have not been online for a while folks but life here in the northwoods is very busy....too many trees to hug. hahahha

Jason,

Isn't fun to see the smiles...I could watch my little girl catch gills all day long as I am sure you do too.

My little girl dropped her rod and reel in the water last night...I reached over with my rod went after it. I got it....but my scotty rail rod holder got me....a 6" bloody gash accross my right tit.....ouch!. Let just say we were done crappie fishing after that, I did not yell and I held my cool, that stuff happens.

Glad you are having fun with you little one on the water.

Jason,

I celebrate your blessing with you. No doubt, one of the coolest experiences a parent can have is to simply share time with their children. Be there for as many of the "Firsts" as you can. The first smile, word, step, cast, gill, bass, pike, 'ski, date......uh??? Stop right there! (LOL) Nothing brings a tear of joy to my cheek like sharing memories with my wife and kids. Congrats to you and your fishing buddy!

I still remember the first fish my boys caught. My youngest is now 23, and still spends several days a year on the back deck outfishing the old man. Brian is a few years older, lives in Minnesota, and still gets out a few with me despite all that.

Lifetime of memories, photos, and watching them learn, there simply are no words to describe it!

What a Fall that was.

After going through the same with 2 boys, I can only paraphrase the commercial 'it doesn't get any better than that'. My youngest, now 25, is my only fishing partner and a true ski fanatic. Hopefully his fiance will continue to be as understanding as my wife has been for the past 33 years.

I am in my glory when I am fishing with my kids. They love to fish and love to cast lures. They are 9, 7 and 5. My 7 year old is the only one to have caught a musky but all three have encountered them while fishing. My 9 year old is determined to get one, he fishes morning and evening and learned to use a baitcaster. He wants one bad! He has had some follows and a boatside crash but none hooked. My 7 year old is a topwater nut. He only wants to throw a topraider. My 5 year old is a fishing machine. No breaks, just go, go, go. When we break for the afternoon he gets his pole and spends the entire time on the dock casting lures. He lost a nice musky last year and I think he just might outfish his brothers this year.
