I'm always looking around the internet for new reels.  I'm a reel junkie.

Has anyone tried one of these new Abu Eon Pro's yet??  I know the regular Eon's are junk.  But the Eon Pro has 11 bearings and is made from carbon fiber.  Retails for about $350.  Didn't know if anyone has tried one of these babies yet.

Another reel I found (although it seems too high tech...ie, a gimmick) is the Calcutta TE Conquest DC.  I have a 400 Conquest (Japanese version of TE), but the new DC stands for Digital Control.  This is what Shimano has to say about the reel:

Conquest DC (digital control) has computer-controlled brake system, which achieves optimum brake performance by sensing the reel condition at 1/1000 sec. The brake lets spool have higher initial speed than conventional brake system (centrifugal system), and allows longer casting distance. In experiment by Shimano, tester casts 88.7m (99yards) with 5/8 rubber plug and 6 feet rod by single hand.

That's pretty impressive....a 100 yard cast with one hand using a 5/8 ounce rubber plug on a 6' rod!!!!!!   Get out your check book, it's $500 if you can find one.

Just thought I'd share some of my finds while wasting time here at work.  Can't wait to hit the water this weekend.

I'm a junkie too..except on a limited budget with the good woman and four boys.

I broke down and bought the Shimano Calais (off ebay of course)and I love it. There is even bearings in the paddles you hold on the handle! My buddies give me grief over the little neopreame and velcro cover that it came with. Cant scratch that smoke chrome finish you know. I'd love to hear a report on the "computer" controlled reel. Why don't you buy one and let us know Steve?
