I'm always looking around the internet for new reels. I'm a reel junkie. Has anyone tried one of these new Abu Eon Pro's yet?? I know the regular Eon's are junk. But the Eon Pro has 11 bearings and is made from carbon fiber. Retails for about $350. Didn't know if anyone has tried one of these babies yet. Another reel I found (although it seems too high tech...ie, a gimmick) is the Calcutta TE Conquest DC. I have a 400 Conquest (Japanese version of TE), but the new DC stands for Digital Control. This is what Shimano has to say about the reel: Conquest DC (digital control) has computer-controlled brake system, which achieves optimum brake performance by sensing the reel condition at 1/1000 sec. The brake lets spool have higher initial speed than conventional brake system (centrifugal system), and allows longer casting distance. In experiment by Shimano, tester casts 88.7m (99yards) with 5/8 rubber plug and 6 feet rod by single hand. That's pretty impressive....a 100 yard cast with one hand using a 5/8 ounce rubber plug on a 6' rod!!!!!! Get out your check book, it's $500 if you can find one. Just thought I'd share some of my finds while wasting time here at work. Can't wait to hit the water this weekend. Steve Hulbert |
