| Hi guys, I have been looking to order a hook cutter, and am for sure going with a knipex. I usually order my stuff from Thorne Bros, but after doing more research, I found what seems to be the same model Knipex for much cheaper on Musky Tackle Online. Am I missing something about the one on musky tackle online and that's why it's cheaper? Or are they the same exact model and Thorne bros just charges more? If anyone has any additional info on this I would appreciate it! If they are different models and the one on Thorne bros is better I will have no problem spending the extra money to get the better one, but I figured I would check here first! Thanks! |

Location: Hayward, WI | The one on Thornes has all the bells and whistles with a padded grip and spring to keep the cutters open. The cheaper one on MTO is just the standard base model. Both of them have the same cutting jaws, and either is very effective. I've had the model that MTO sells for I think 8 years now and it still cuts hooks with ease. |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I got mine off Amazon for a lot cheaper then Thorne Bros or anyone else was selling theirs for. Also, like most internet businesses, you'll typically find the prices on MTO to be a little less then your brick and mortar store like TB, but then again you have to pay shipping unless you order a certain amount. |

| I've got the spring loaded ones, and it's not hard to keep it from getting rusty if you keep it oiled with a little silicone reel oil. I've had mine for 7 years now, and it still works well. The spring is nice for one-handed operation, like when you've got the fish by the gill plate with one hand and you have more than one hook point to cut. It's awkward to re-open the cutter with just one hand. |

| This topic comes up allot and for good reason... One of the most important release tools. At the end of the day its always majority same response of knipex hands down. Yes many of us bought shiny new mini bolt cutters and they work great on the first 10 or 15 8/0 hooks. Then they start to be a pain Just stop being cheap and by a knipex. You will cut hooks with ease for years to come. Sears online has them for cheaper too. |

| Go with Knipex there very good made in Germany. I got mine the red handle type without the spring on a tool truck so I have lifetime warranty, which I dought Ill ever use because these things cut very easy and quickly on any hooks. I tried them on a bunch of hooks and man these are the best cutters Ive ever used, I keep them oiled for rust prevention. If I remember I paid around $45. Check around thou the price varies from tackle outlets, Ebay, Sears, tool trucks have them ( Im a mechanic) to get the best price. |

| I have the angled Knipex. I do think that they make it easier to get into tight spots and make the cuts. I would recommend them. |

Those will cut hooks, sure, for a little while. They will barley, if your lucky cut an 8/0
And they wont cut a thing if you have to use your weak hand because your dominant hand is glued to a fish with treble through it.
Get the Knipex, for your own safety should a situation arise |

Location: one foot over the line | Have used my knipex many times to cut hooks out of fish. I've been chasing these fish for 18 years now and this past weekend was the first time that i ever had to cut hooks out of myself and a fish at the same time. I cannot express how grateful i was that i had a knipex. I'll never be without one no matter what the price is. |

When the $%^& has hit the fan and the fish is shaking your hand like a prostitute on crack, there was a split second in the back of my mind when i said to myself, "self, thank goodness you have a knipex!" It gives me a warm fuzzy feeling and allows me to sleep well at night. |

Do you want a hook cutter that's like cutting through butter or hook cutters that cuts like a plastic knife cutting through an over cooked steak? I had the cheap $10 Kobalt cutters & many times had to use 2 hands to cut hooks because they got very dull after only cutting 4 or 5 hooks. Having to use 2 hands to cut hooks when fishing by yourself can get tricky when the fish won't cooperate. After using my buddy's rusty Knipex to cut hooks with ease I decided to not bother with the cheapo cutters. I'm not going to take a chance of getting handcuffed with my lure & the fish when fishing by myself & only have cheap cutters next to me.
