Rich Belanger told me June if I'm not mistaking...but I've been wrong before!

Don't know that I am really in the market for a $500 rod but a June release is absurd. Most guys are going to have their set ups dialed in before the season starts.

I suspect two segments will buy this rod:
1. guides/pros - receive a discount and probably have early access
2. very price-insensitive crowd - will buy it whenever regardless

Personally I think this rod line serves two purposes:
1. offset some of the R&D costs. Technology will work its way into lower-tier rods over time
2. Flagship product that makes the price of other premium rods easier to stomach (LT series comes to mind.

Picked these up at NW expo and MN muskie expo. Incredible rods. I don't think the performance gain offsets the price, but it sure makes the LT series A LOT more palatable. Been thinking about a Big Nasty pretty seriously lately....

I may be a few bucks off but the guide set alone MSRP is $130 on these rods. All of the top options are on this rod IMO... In short its like looking at a 2015 Corvette. You can get a nice off the lot Vette for $60k OR you can go for it and get the $120 Vette with every option on it

Typically they release new models after ICAST in July, so a June release is better than the alternative.
I heard they'll start shipping next week, the 9 footers won't be till July.

I guess I would be part of segment 3?

I have a rod coming directly from St. Croix and I was told late Spring. Not sure when exactly that means, but I'm stoked to try it.

So they are going to have 9' Elite's? They only had 4 models up to 8 1/2 at the show. Are they going to have a 9 footer comparable to the nasty? From what I saw at the show it didn't look like there was anything heavy enough to throw mag dawgs.

From what I remember, they are only making 4 models with the 8'6" H being the largest. If they made a Big Dawg version I would be in heaven!

There's a 9 foot MH 3/4-3oz and a 9 foot Heavy 3-8oz for now. The newer Sling Blades are also going to 3-8 oz. instead of 2-6.

yes, looks like on rollie and hellens website there is two 9'ers listed for pre order. first i've heard of 9' since they didn't make it seem like it at the shows.

Feedback from the shows convinced them to do 9's. Wasn't in the initial plans so that's why they're so much later than the other 4 models. I hope the 90HF is like the Nasty, we'll just have to wait and see.

Right on! Does anyone know if they're all going to be split grip or are there going to be full cork rods as well?

All split to my memory as I chatted with the St Croix rep at the MN show and asked that question as I like a full grip for the most part.

Could be just me, but I thought my old diamondback still has the edge on nice light feel vs the new croix's also.

I was told full cork for now by St Croix but I was surprised to hear that because all that I have scene in the shows are split grip. I am interested in finding out too.

As far as I know there are no full cork available right now. I think they're all split grip.

I have 2 old school DBs that were custom made. I had a chance to handle the new st. croixs. Though I havent had a chance to fish the St. Croix, I can tell you it's lighter than the old DBs.

^same here ... have an old DB and it's awesome! ... stopped at the St. Croix shop and got to see a manufacturer's sample of the new rod and it's all of what it's being said to be. Really incredible what your brain is thinking when you grab it. it's a feather ...

Slamr,

I also have an old school DB custom made by Thorne Bros many years ago.

The new St Croix just did not feel lighter to me when I stopped by their booth. My rod is 8 foot 4 inches and I was comparing to the 8 foot 6's for the most part. Next time around I will bring it along and compare to the 8 footers also. It could just be the split grip throwing me off.

Moving on.

That's too bad if that's true. I myself prefer the padding of the full cork on my ribs when ripping jerk baits etc. Does anyone know for sure?

The new rods will begin shipping next week, if everything stays on track. Get your order in if you want one.

surprised they got a 9MH and not a 9XH coming out. I'd think there'd be more a market for an XH 9' model than a medium heavy

Right on, good to know. I may have to pick one up despite the lack of a full cork grip. After holding one at the show it's hard not to wanna grab one. By far the lightest musky rod I've ever handled.

Well when I came home I found a nice surprise. My new 8' 6" Legend Elite waiting for me. Blown away how light it is. Really excited to get out and use it.
