Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | I have always wondered this, whats the best thing to do when the fish catches a hook to the eye? Is it better to cut the hook off and leave it in there or to try to pull the hook out? Regardless its super unfortunate for the fish!!

Posts: 364 Location: Central Wisconsin | That was my thought also.. one time of pain vs having that barb remain in the eye.

Posts: 22 | I have caught Bass, musky and a few small pike with one eye. Some of these injuries looked old and the fish were not starving or under weight for their length. I would try to remove the hook unless I think doing so will do more damage than leaving it in, and always cut off as much as you can if leaving it in.

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | I just could not rip the hook out of a muskie's eye and ripping it out completely....I cut the hooks and leave as little as possible.

Posts: 1169 Location: New Hope MN | There was an image on this site a few years ago of a metro fish with both eyes obviously nonfunctioning. She was big and fat. The eyes looked gross, but otherwise a very healthy fish.
