Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I took a trip to Ashland to fish with my son Brian looking for some walleyes, bass, pike, trout, or pannies. We did catch some nice smallies and a pike, but no walleyes.
Instead, I caught a dinosaur.
Darn near spooled me twice, but the Avid Air Ice stick and Abu Cardinal spooled with Nanofil did the job. Barely fit through the hole. The line was cutting 3" grooves into the bottom of the hole when the fish ran off up to 145 yards of line at a burn.
Heck of a way to end Ice Fishing for this Spring! |

Pretty cool battle. Took a little under 15 minutes total. Legal fish to keep but we let her go. |
