Posts: 41 | I'm thinking about getting a quick release mount for my new Xi5 trolling motor and wanted to see what people's thoughts were (pro's & con's)? I've done minimal research at this point but I did come across a review in which a guy included a youtube link of him standing on the front deck when his trolling motor hits a log and the trolling motor release pops off and his trolling motor falls in the water. He says he'll never use one again. Has anyone else have or heard of Terrova or Xi5 quick releases coming off?

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Well, my release bracket is bolted thru the fiberglass on the bow and nutted on the underside. There are at least 4 bolts if i recall. Then the Terrova itself slides into the bracket and I have it padlocked to the bracket. Mine is not coming off from hitting a log. I question the setup in the situation you mention.

Just watched the video, and if their mount is anything like the one I'm using I'd suspect he didn't have the locking pin in place??? Edited by V18 3/26/2015 9:52 AM

Posts: 41 | Thanks for the responses, after reading these I'm thinking the guy didn't use a padlock to lock the trolling motor to his quick release mount and when he hit the log it pushed it off. I thinking I'm going with the quick release mount and a padlock. Here's the link of the video, it's kind of funny in a bad kind of way. I would have liked to heard how the rest of the video went:) http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/139700-motorg...

Posts: 41 | In his response below the video he indicates the release broke, "I still contend the plate was faulty and should not have broken like that, dumping the trolling motor into the lake." He even indicates Motorguide says they've never seen it before. Makes me think the mount broke and not that he didn't secure it with a padlock.
