| I could use some help on a prop. I just bought a 2002 Lund Angler SS 1700 with a mercury115hp 4-stroke. Took it out today for a test run today with the new prop I bought. It is a Propco Stainless Steel 13.25 x 18 prop. It only got 4000 rpm and 26 mph with a horrible hole shot. I pulled the boat back out and put on the aluminum 13.25 x 17. It went to 5000 rpm and 33 mph with a poor to fair hole shot. I know this boat and motor can perform better than this. Any suggestions. |

| Are you trimming all the way down(in) for take off? Are you trimming out once you get to full throttle? It sounds like you have more than a prop issue if there is 1000 rpm difference between those 2 props. How did the previous owner have the boat set up? In my experience, and I am no expert, when going from aluminum to stainless, I have had better results by going down a pitch size, not up. Are the props 3 blade? Is the max rpm for this motor closer to 6000? Motor height can be an issue as well. More info about your setup would help. |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya,
If this is a new boat to you, one thing that might be worth considering is to have the injectors checked. The 17 pitch prop should be awfully close to what the boat should be having on it, and the boat should be running just about 40 or so...
Did a little bit of searching about what kind of numbers you were seeing... Something you can check is to pull the plugs. If they are really clean, you might be running lean, thus the motor is not reaching it's full potential. If the injectors are clogged a touch, that will rob you of horsepower quickly, thus potentially giving you the numbers you are seeing.
This could potentially explain the poor hole shot as well.....

| For reference, We have the same boat with a Yamaha 90hp four stroke, and I can
Do about 45mph with just myself in the boat. Two guys and gear loaded
It does about 39mph full throttle. I'm not sure what prop pitch we have, will check next
Time I'm up north and send you a pm. |
