I live a dense suburb of Chicago and don't have a second home to act as a depot.

I am attempting to figure out how other people in similar situations who have boats store their boats during the summer when using them and then in the winter went not using them (as much). Sure, I can use the local u-store-it place, but the costs seem to outweigh any benefit.

Any thoughts?

Yep, find a person who has room. Why are the people in your suburb dense? Perhaps that is why you kept it anonymous. Town X.

When I lived in Chicago years ago, I stored it someplace local until the cost became ludicrous. You are in a costly area and it shows when you try to store something. Then I figured (again at that time) I fished mostly Eagle River area so I stored my boat up in Merril, WI for about half the cost. PLUS, I saved all that gas because I was not towing the boat all that distance.
When I moved to Minnesota, I found a spot locally. $65 inside with electricity ! Great spot about 1/2 mile away from home.

Chicago is way too expensive on EVERYTHING..... why I left after 55 years there.

Good luck
