I'm starting to search for a (used) 1760 G series Tiller. I've read so much about how smooth the 1760 rides in rough water, sits low at rest, and in general is a great combination.

Seem to hear less about the 1890. Does the 1760 actually ride smoother than the 1890, or is the 1760 just very smooth considering the size of the boat? Would seem the 1890 would run smoother, but I also understand they have completely different hulls.

Most of the 1890's are probably over my budget, but if I found the right one it could be an option, provided it was still very smooth riding, and especially if it sat low enough in the water at rest to provide boat control at least as good as the 1760 in windy situations.

Those that have run both boats, what's your take on how they compare?

I have had both. The 1760 is the ideal crossover ride for those who fish big and little water, and fishes like a much bigger boat. The 1890 runs the big stuff better because it is a foot longer. I'd say the 1890 is a better ride when waves get to 3'. Both sit nicely in the water for muskie fishing, both are stable at rest, and the interiors are identical from 2006 on.

The interior room in the 1890 is better if you are going to fish 3 often.

I run a 1890 GT and will be ordering another if or when my 2012 sells
The 1890 is also a foot wider than the 1760. I have driven both boats (both tillers)
I would say any waves bigger than a 1' the 1890 rides better in. Which it should being a bigger boat......If you can afford the 1890 I would get that.
Has a tandem axel trailer
Can fit 3- 9' rods in top row in rod locker and 4- 8'6" on second row.
Sits low enough to the water to easily work on fish at side of boat and is very easy for boat control in high winds
More room for gear.
Can fish 4 if you need to

Great input - thanks guys. Jeff, I think I might have seen your boat for sale. It's just a little north of the budget my accountant (wife, who is an accountant...) has given me. If the right 1890 at the right price comes along I would be tempted, though it's really more boat than I 'need.'

Thanks,

Tucker

One more question - the Tuffy website lists the1760 at 1400 pounds and the 1890 at 1600 pounds? Is that fairly accurate that the 1890 only weighs 200 pounds more than the 1760? I thought it would be significantly more - the 1890 is BIG!

Thanks,

Tucker
