Divani,

Do you have Zander where you fish? It looks like it is a very close relative to the Walleye. Walleye is some of the best tablefare there is. Have you tried Zander?

PS. Have you worn out that tape yet?

Shep, we have zander here and they do grow larger than walleye. I believe the largest one is something along the lines of 110cm. I once hooked and lost one that would have been a 40"er. The teethmarks on my crankbait (Supershadrap) were dogteeth and there was some 4cm between the two holes.

I do not fish for them but I wouldn't mind if one would take my lures. I fish for pike. Pike, all other fish are baitfish!

I kept my first legal. The praise I got from Dad, Grandpa, cousins, etc. was incredible. Back in the late 70's C&R was not yet established.... and experiencing those times helps me understand the "little Johnny" mentality still being used today to fight higher size limits, etc. I don't necessarily agree... but I understand where/how it originated.

I too kept my first legal fish (1967) and a few after that too including my last kept fish, a 43" Tiger in 1971. That fish was mounted and now resides on my son's rec room wall. CPR wasn't what it should have been in those days and most anglers catching a legal fish (30"+) did keep them. Then we became smarter (more educated) and began releasing them to swim, spawn, and fight another on another day, CPR had been born. I can understand someone wanting to keep a legal fish and would never put down or criticize them for doing so - BUT I would certainly try to share with them the value of releasing the fish and opting for a reproduction if a trophy was desired. I didn't become a CPR angler by someone preaching to or at me, insisting that I do as they do. I became a CPR angler through the well-meaning and dedication of others sharing information with me. I believe the secret to learning is the simple word "share" as we approach others differently when we attempt to share ideas rather than dictate or insist. Have a feeling that this same sharing method is going to be required to ever get the increased size limits off the ground and into effect too.
