I'm looking at getting a replacement set of polarized lenses for my oakley sunglasses. The current lenses are getting a bit scratched up so I thought I'd replace them with a polarized set if I'm going to replace them anyways. I've always liked amber lenses for fishing but it seems oakley uses a convoluted color wheel. Wondering if anybody has a recommendations. The colors they offer are Grey, Ice Iridium (purple), Titanium Iridium (beige), Fire Iridium (orange), VR28 Black Iridium (brown), VR28 (pink), Gold Iridium, or Black Iridium. None of those sound too optimal....

I did the same thing with a pair of Half Jackets. I got the Polarized Gold Iridium. I've been fairly pleased. For what ever it's worth, Amazon has really good prices at the time.

Posts: 470 Location: Blaine, MN | I have half jackets with the Titanium Iridium lenses, great beach wear, awful for seeing much in the water.... I felt like Ray Charles the first time out fishing with them. Oakleys stay in the truck while I am fishing, I haven't found a descent pair for fishing yet... JMO

Posts: 1752 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I have Black Iridium Polarized lenses and I will wear nothing else. I do have a high sensitivity to light, so the dark lenses are ideal for me. Get the XLJ lenses because they block much more light from below (reflections) than the round lenses.

Posts: 97 Location: Pickering, ON | I have prescription Fuel Cell's in bronze polarized. Really happy with them. For really bright days, I prefer grey. I wouldn't get iridium coated. Scratch them and they're done.

I've got the Black Iridium lenses for the Flak Jacket XLJs. Only complaint I have about the color is in low-light conditions, but that is expected with grey lenses.

Posts: 355 Location: Vilas County, WI | I found this thread from 2012. I'm in the market for new polarized Oakley fishing lenses. Based on the responses above from 3 years ago it sounds like the Blue Iridum are the way to go. Does that still hold true? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Posts: 68 | I've got a couple pairs of gas cans and a pair of half x plasma frames, all polarized. I find myself using the black iridium gas cans most of the time in sunny conditions because of the thick frames. In overcast I wear the plasma frames with blue mirror lenses. I've tried dozens of different lenses because I bowfish a lot and good visibility is even more important than when musky fishing. This combo seems to work best for me. Amber would my first choice if I was going with one lenses for both conditions. I used to carry a few extra sets of lenses and change them on the water. Changing only takes a minute for most frames

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | Heyo! Let me ask you, what frames do you have? I used to work for Oakley, I know way too much about the lenses, but I might be able to find you some other colors that would work if I knew what frame you were working with. Of the lense colors you listed assuming they are all polarized, stay away from black, Ice, and fire iridium. The of the other colors (Gold, Titanium, and VR28 Black) are pretty dark for effective fishing lenses, though VR28 Black is the best of those three, Grey is lighter but it's a nuetral lense opposed to a contrast lense, and VR28 Polarized is probably one of the better lenses you've listed. I myself use two Oakley lenses when I fish, I use the VR28 Black in super bright conditions, and I use the Shallow Blue Iridium (Amber based with a slight blue iridium coating) for pretty much 95% of all fishing situations. Rock on, C7

Rock on, C7 C7: I use the Oakley Five-Squared. Great glasses but I need a replacement lense for low light (towards evening etc...). I got a new pair of glasses last year and quit using my Oakley's but would like to put them back in teh line-up if I can find a good lense for low-light situations. Thanks!

Posts: 230 Location: St Paul, Minnesota | With the Five-Squared you're kind of out of luck... That frame was one of their entry level "lifestyle" frames designed which means they weren't treated as a sports frame so there weren't as many performance lense options. You're best bet is either Bronze Polarized or VR28 Polarized, but VR28 polarized has a lens transmission of 14% and Bronze polarized is going to be 15%, and I can tell you that those are nowhere near ideal for low light. I use one of two lenses for low/light and not super bright conditions: Oakley's Shallow Blue Iridium which I beleive has 20% lens transmission, and Costa Del Mar's Sunrise Lense which is listed at having 30% lense trasmission.
