I guess I was bored at work, but was scrolling around on google maps looking at some areas I have fished in the past around Monument Bay on LOTW and saw just NW of Monument between Shoal Lake and Monument two lakes called Mason and Reid Lake. Looks like one of them is actually connected to Monument Bay, at least maybe when the water is high.

Has anyone gone on an adventure to either of those lakes? not sure it's even possible to get to them via boat, but was thinking maybe next summer when I am up there hauling my kayak along and seeing what's in there. I've never even been up that arm that seems to connect to Monument, so not sure how close one can even get before needing to paddle/hike. Thought it might be a fun day adventure maybe for pike/smallies. Not sure I want to attempt muskies in a kayak.

If anyone has any information to keep my brain busy and entertained, would be appreciated.

You can't get in by boat. Monument Bay and Frolander's used to have boats in them, but I don't think they do any longer. No muskies that I know of, but smallies, walleyes, and pike. It's not a very long hike and there's a trail. I haven't been in there for many years.

Doug,

Thanks for the info... I never even thought about MBL or Frolanders offering it as an option for their guests. I wonder if they stopped fishing it due to lack of fish or just no guests using it due to the big water? Is the trail by the feeder creek or is it in another location? Any other likes like these in the angle area to try out?

Guess I'd stop at Frolander's and have them show you where the trails are. Hard to do on-line! They may still have boats on the lakes. I think that the fishing is still very good. Fishing on the LOTWs for walleyes and bass is generally pretty good, and most people don't want to go through the extra work involved to get into Reid and Mason.

I haven't been there for years but I thought the fishing was about like what I experienced on the LOTWs for bass and pike.

There's another lake north of Portage Bay called Question Lake that has some nice walleyes in it. There's a trail leading to this also.
