So I'm watching the four-star Anthony Michael Hall classic "Johnny Be Good" this week and his grandpa busts out a spinner with a pink tinsel skirt like you might find on a girls bicycle handlebar. This was in 1988. I believe the Texas college recruiting Johnny ordered 10,000 of them. If only we could find this cache of antique pink spinners and outfit them with multiple 2/0 trebles.
I also missed the name he called them by. I want to say "twaddler" or something goofy like that.

From what I have heard the double 10 with tinsel on it was in the early 80s by a guy named Brian. Now this was musky specific.... My guess is that the use of tinsel on any spinnerbait or bucktail was much earlier than this. LOL when was tinsel invented for Christmas trees? 50s/60s??? You know some guy on his 10th can of PBR looked at the tree all sparkled up with tinsel and thought, YA, FISHING LURES!!!!

So when was PBR invented??? If they happened at nearly the same time, then I'd bet you're right, James.

I joined Muskie inc. in 1983. Got involved with a guy Named John Kraker.  WE fished together every Wednesday and Saturday for ski's on Pewaukee. At that time, John and I both fished the original Tinsel tail spinnerbait made by Hedron. I owned 6 at that time, and still have a few of the original heads. One of my custom molds are similar to Hedron designed head.

In the late 80's, John Laimon from smokeys bait shop handled my custom made spinnerbaits made with tinsel skirts.

As far as I know, Hedron made the first tinsel spinners!

JD, were you familiar with the little sparkle tails that Tom wisniewski (Wizzie) made back in the 80's? Since he was friends with John Laimon, I figured he might of handled some of those? Dank (Michael Danko) has told me stories about Wizzie making tinsel tailed bucktails back in the day.

Yes, I remember Wizzie well. Cool dude. He made tinsel, skunk, and hair Bucktails for smokeys. I think he even did hair and tinsel combo's.

I thought it was neat that John/ Smokeys let local guides and talent build baits for the bait shop that works on the local lakes.  Not happening much these days!
