Posts: 126 | Just got a silver 3+ and I believe it was factory set to 960p which only has ultra wide as an option for field of view. Everything looks so far away when I playback. I am using a head strap but may look to mount it in the boat. What are you guys setting yours for? Thanks for any input.

Posts: 613 Location: Michigan | I changed my setting to 720 as I only upload videos to youtube. 720 fills the frame where as 960 leaves the black columns on both sides of the video. Any setting is going to look pretty far away with a gopro as it has a wide, fish-eye lense. I think some of the new 4 models had ultra-side, medium, and narrow settings, but not sure on any of the others. Picture on left is in 960 and one on right is in 720: Attachments ---------------- Untitled.png (177KB - 493 downloads)

Posts: 126 | Thanks Jason, My silver 3+ does have options for ultra wide, medium , and narrow. The factory setting is 960 and the only option for 960 is ultra wide. Im going to fool around with the 1080 and 720 settings in medium and narrow. I'm a complete newbie to this so just curious what others experience have been.

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Here's a good concise explanation: http://abekislevitz.com/understanding-your-new-gopro/ In a nutshell, shoot it in 1080-60 wide unless you need to save space on the card.

Posts: 120 | I used 1080-60 wide last year. Worked good. Stop it and start new clip if you had some action to save. If you have no action for a while delete the last clip with nothing good on it. Saves space on card. Everything does look far away but most action is close to the boat and in wide you usually get footage of your partners action also.

Posts: 78 | The op can't record in 1080 because he has a silver edition unless I'm wrong. Haven't looked. I have the black and record in 1080 normal and it is much better and stuff doesn't look far away from the wide angle..

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | Anyone know if the 1080 setting is harder on battery usage than say 720? JB, when you say stop it and start a new clip if action to save, or delete last clip if none to save, are you doing that by stopping recording (button on top) or by turning it off completely, then turning it back on and going back and deleting? What are your settings for the overwrite or whatever that is? I think mine is currently set at 20 seconds.
