Location: Moorhead, MN | Hey guys,
I was wondering what is the best time of year to fish Leech Lake in Minnesota for muskies because me and a buddy of mine are thinking about giving it a try in August some tips would be appreciated and
what tactics would work.

Location: Alexandria, MN | Leech is a great lake from opener to freeze over. The fish are BIG and the water is clear so you can see them -- helps to keep your blood pumping. The lake has gotten better as the pressure gets spread out. Many more lakes with quality fish, so now EVERYONE does not have to go to Leech to fish Muskies anymore. The lake used to be "standing room only" in the summer. Boats working the weed beds like a freight train, just get in line and take your shot! The fish were so lure shy, it wasn't any fun.
Now there are more Muskie Fisher-people, but they have more options.
If it's your first time, a guide is a good investment -- Leech is a Very Big Lake!
Good Luck!

Leech cab be very productive in August, if you time it right, they might be up in the reeds at that time of year. Like Freak said, if you have never fished it before, I suggest hiring Murph, top notch guide and also a MuskieFIRST member. You can reach him at 218-547-2142 or [email protected]
Good luck! |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Murph is a good choice for sure. I fished the lake quite a few times in September. The topwater bite was hot, and bucktails on the first break on the round rock shores and harbor mouths produced well for muskies and nice pike, too. |
