If you were to pick a condition and system, either a river or lake, that is under 1000 acres to find a good population of muskies, and the chance for a big girl, what would you set as requirements for the lake or river? How would you research the water in advance?

300 acres or less lake!!!! Crystal clear water chuck full of ciscoes in the 6-10" range, and maybe a few trout. Throw in some suckers, a few walleyes, and some smallies and I'm there! A few sand and rock points, fallen timber, a big sand flat, and some deep water (50 ft +) and I'm definitely a happy man. Don't need any weeds. Don't want any weeds except maybe a little bit of the low lying stuff that is like a matt on the lake floor. The baitfish need some habitat to feed on too. Add one or rock/sand humps that top out no shallower than 10 feet, and be located neer a point. Maybe one more hump that tops out in the 20-25 foot range (which is hopefully neer the thermocline).

Now give me three different weather conditions. First the more "classic" weather. Muggy and hot, mostly cloudy day with very little wind. Just enough to allow the boat to drift at a decent pace. Throw in a drizzle or two during the day.

Second I would want bright sunny day with very little wind. Big Fish Day! Lastly a bright sunny day with a good 3 foot chop on the water.
