Posts: 33 | I am from NE Wisconsin, and the past few years I have went down to Kinkaid in Early March to Cast for Muskies. Just to get rid of the itch!! My understanding is muskie can be caught on Kinkaid in January and February but it is a Trolling bite ONLY? Am I wrong? Or does someone know of a great place to CAST for Muskies in January or February? Melton Hill or any other suggestions? I know of Cave Run and Melton Hill, but have never tried, and am not sure if there is casting water in January and February? Thanks!!

Posts: 109 | Lots of rivers in wv, ky, and va. We cast em all year. Most years I know in wv the lakes don't freeze either but they did last year. Edited by buckner 12/24/2014 9:11 AM

Posts: 358 | Not to be a smart a.. but it all depends on the weather. Here in NW. Pa. everything is open and launches clear, however that could all change quickly this time of year. The Susquehanna River is open also.

Posts: 227 | Melton will not freeze as the power plant keeps warm water pushing into the river. In addition, the water entering from Norris Lake is moving pretty fast which helps limit any ice formation. Last year was one of the worst winters for snow and cold down here yet there was never any chance of ice on the river. We fished the power plant hot hole when the air temps were 8 degrees above zero, and we caught a few fish. Melton is a great place to fish in the winter; easy shore line fishing with some big fish.

Posts: 409 Location: Almond, WI | I know guys that catch them on Kincaid casting that time of year--all depends on the where and what of the equation. Fox River has a limited population (all escapees) but I also know guys that cast for them in January-March and have decent success.

Posts: 455 | Casting works well as you can really slow down and pick apart the main spots. N.J. is clear as of now. Some years open all winter but not often. Delaware river has a great bite all winter. Long ride from WI though.

Posts: 227 | Billy Davis has been guiding on the lake longer than anyone else, and he has the best working knowledge of the lake. If you want to cast for muskies, he is the guy I would recommend. He puts a lot of fish in the boat each year. If you want to talk about the lake P mail me on this site. I have fished the lake for a number of years.
