I used to fish out of them when staying at Indian Trail on the Chippewa Flowage In fact I think John Dettloff still guides out of them. #1 boat for sucker fishing out of last week of the muskie season.I can' remember the brand .30 years ago back in 1983 my buddy's dad bought him a glass John Boat we used it for years . Posts: 46 | I had a few flats style boats when I was living in Florida that I could see using as a muskie boat. We could float well under a foot. I think my buddies was a 22 foot pathfinder that gets way shallower then I thought possible, the new ones have under gunnel rod holders too. Not a great rough water boat though. Wet in anything over a foot. But fast and shallow.

I'm on my second 22' Pathfinder. Amazing rough water hull. Draws 11' (waaaay less on plane. personally had it on plane in <8") Very, very dry and comparable to my 620 ranger in rough water. They don't make an 18' though and flats boats (yes even the ones made by PF parent company Maverick) don't handle big water very well. Maverick used to make the ultimate flats/musky boat...the 21' Master Angler... amazing boat but very pricy even used. The Hewes Redfishers would be a great compromise. There are some great 18' shallow draft bay boats out there though. Scout and Sea Hunt are good options and reasonably priced with plenty on the used market. I would guess they draft substantially more than the Esox Mag and aren't designed with muskies in mind!

![]() Posts: 114 | All of the Key West B/R Series (Bay/Reef) are roughly 12" of draft at rest. Any of the boats mentioned will likely draft almost nothing when on plane (8 inches or less). Most of the boats measurements provided will be draft at rest. http://www.keywestboatsinc.com/boats/show/id/49

Posts: 109 Location: Wisconsin River | i am currently running a e-mag and have never been in a more stable shallow draft boat. Even with a larger motor on it, I can easily get through less than 1' of water. Every time I get out on the flowage in more than 2' of chop I wish for a deeper v but have never had any problems getting wet. Can 1 boat really do it all?
