I would like to buy a dedicated Jerkbait set up before next season. All the rods I have looked at have 14 inch or smaller handles. I would like one with a 16-18 inch handle. Does anyone know of a rod manufacturer that makes such a rod? I realize I could order it custom from several companies but I'm not really looking to pay custom prices for a Jerkbait rod. Thanks

I would buy, a LT "the jerk" and extend the handle

I agree with Zinox, St.Croix Legend Tournament - Jerk, it's a solid jerk reel. Then if the handle feels too short you can get it extended for like $15.

I'm not aware of any factory jerkbait rods with handles that long. Your best bet is to find the rod you really like and have a local builder extend the handle for you. Should cost around $25-$30 to have done.

I have a 7-9 Elk River rod that I use strictly for jerks and heavy top waters. I really like the thick 15" handle that comes standard but I know that they do a 18" handle for about $25 more.

whats your prefered length for a jerkbait rod? I have an 8'6 XH from Custom X I like a lot. The handle on the rod is 18" stock so it does not feel like too long of a rod when using it for jerkbaits and the action is perfect for them IMO.

7' 6" is by far my favorite length for a jerk bait rod. It allows you to "work" the bait much easier than a longer rod. 8'6" is to long in my opinion. Especially when fishing out of a boat that sits low to the water.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. Do you use the Medium Heavy?
