Has anyone purchased the Garmin Fishing Hot Spots GPS MAPs? I am looking at the Region 6, Minnesota Maps and don't know if they are worth the money? Any help
Thanks

I live in Wisconsin and I purchased all of the regions. The reason I bought all regions is because it wasn't that much more to get all of the regions, and I wanted LOTW. Plus I won't mind someday fishing Cave Run, Michigan, and Minnesota lakes. I found that the maps were very accurate and very helpful, especially on LOTW. I was able to navigate much further than I would normally go up there. Wisconsin has alot of maps, but I wish I could get more, they are very handy for learning new water. I would assume that for some of the big water in Minnesota the maps would be very helpful.

Also if you ice fish, the maps are great. Pick a reef, or drop off and drill a hole, you will be right on the spot. Great for getting to a spot quickly without drilling a ton of holes.

For what is worth I have the canada series. I have used it on Eagle lake and found it NOT to be that accurate. Of course I have yet to see an Eagle lake map that is that accurate! It was helpful however, but I wouldn't use it for navagation! TONS of spots not on the map. Some of my "tracks" I have saved take me over land.....I don't consider that accurate.

BUT, I am glad I have it, just be careful!

I was looking to pick up a Garmin GPS unit and the Hot Spots map software while I was at the MN Muskie Expo at Blaine.  The people at Reeds Sports told me to wait until early summer to buy the Hot Spots software.  Aparantly Fishing Hot Spots is working on an upgraded version of the softwart that is more accurate and should be released in late spring or early summer.  The current version is 4.0 and the people at Reeds suggested I wait for the next version to come out.

From what I understand you can get free udgrades directly off the Garmin webtits once you have purchased their products. I just recently bought a Garmin and the Hot Spots software package for the entire country. I have only used it on Lake Shelbyville this past week for the PMTT event. I found it to be a great tool for navigation, the contures were not exactly accurate.

I just purchased version 4.0 for my Garmin 188 and unlocked region 7 (WI). I've only had the opportunity to use it on Lake Geneva and found it pretty accurate. As mentioned early, you have to be careful and not assume that hazards are marked. The software clearly states that you shouldn't rely on the maps for navigation (lawyer speak, of course).

There are some lakes that I'd like to see added, but according to a Garmin rep, they have no idea when the next version will be released. 4.0 was just released in late February so it will probably be a while.
