anyone remove and replace broken lexan lips on baits before? The pictured bait is the second one to break on me this season in much the same place. Both were brand new balsa baits by different manufacturers. Both broke on the first cast. I guess im asking how does one go about removing the remaining lip? looks like the line tie goes thru the lip pictured. Would i cut it out on the bandsaw, remove the line tie and go with a screw eye? or is this just firewood? thanks. Attachments ---------------- 20141019_102828.jpg (56KB - 139 downloads)

Posts: 572 | I would contact the lure company. They should provide the information you are looking for, as well as possibly a replacement lip or maybe even a new lure. First cast,,,, bummer. Good luck.

Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | Hello mnmusky I repair broken lips all the time. I use a carpet nice to get next to the lip epoxy and work it around the lip and the wire, once you get the epoxy loosened I use a pair of long nose pliers to yank out the lip, there is usually enough of the broken lip to grab it, other wise use a very small screwdriver to pry it out. It's very easy to do. Make sure you do not gouge any of the balsa wood, you want to keep that intact to keep the angle that was cut. You can purchase the lip or make your own out of lexan. When you install the new lip I usually draw a center line on the new lip, that helps to center the lip on the bait than cut a slot in order to fit it over the wire. I use Loctite epoxy or Devcon2-ton Good luck Gino

Its through wire you can't use a band saw or you'll cut the wire. ShutUpNFish - 10/20/2014 7:18 AM Yes it is fully repairable....I use a band saw to remove the lips. Easy

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | The wire runs through the lip? If so, only cut on either side down to the wire...use a dremel to drill out the lip,,,,insert a shorter lip, super glue and epoxy. But I would go with the manufacturer's recommendation - send it back! I would NEVER use a screw eye in balsa it will pull out in a short amount of time. Edited by ShutUpNFish 10/21/2014 7:56 AM

You're kidding right? I'd bet I would break it off again just by ripping it; not to mention the first rock it comes in contact with. Edited by MartinTD 10/21/2014 11:53 AM

Posts: 321 Location: Glen Ellyn Il | No there is no screw, at least for the Crane and Big Game twitch that I repaired. I usually score the Lexan so the epoxy gets a better bind. Those lips do not come out that easy Gino

Posts: 1202 Location: Money, PA | Doesn't look like the same lure...Did they send you a new one? Good service goes a long way...try getting that from the mass producers! Certainly one of the perks to supporting the homemade, handbuilt crafters out there!
