Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | We got about 15" of snow yesterday and today, and the Polar Vortex is sliding in tonight. Teens tonight and tomorrow night, highs in the low 20's, and Friday, it is looking like lows in the single digits and highs in the low teens. It's been a great season. Keith and I had a good time fishing with the Gerrit's Pelican Lake league, and did well when we got out on a shoot or for some R&R. We didn't get back up to LOTW MN for Muskies this year which we regret, but had a great late Fall trip to AML for a few days, and had an excellent Summer trip to Spring Bay Resort, too. Great hospitality, and exceptional fishing. I am ready for ice, and we dodged a bullet with this storm. It could have ruined the ice for the season if we had 4" already, but luckily, most of the lakes here are open today with the exception of back bays. It will be a mess getting in to some of our puddles we like to fish, but not horrible. Soon as we get deer rifle and smoke pole season out of the way, the OFM on the Ice projects will take off for 2014/15. LOTS of new Frabill and Jiffy gear to try out, and the fishing should be great if the snow doesn't get us like it did last year. Stop in and visit sled, me, Keith, TeamRooster, and a host of other Ice goofs once in awhile. The videos are cool, conversation interesting, and you can ice fish in the North all Winter. http://icefishing.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/forum-view.asp?fid... We'll get the weekly online seminars on MuskieFIRST fired up before too long. The Winter will only last 6 more months in the upper Midwest, so don't despair...the muskies will be there waiting for you next Spring. Of course, there's always a road trip to the South.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Whoa...15" inches. We got maybe 1-2" here in Green Bay. But it all melted, so it's like it never happened. Too bad Florida is such a crazy place to live. I'm thinking they don't get that much snow...

Posts: 556 | you guys can have the ICE Fishing !!! Did it while I was younger but now--the gulf of Mexico and south florida have all my fishing needs covered over the winter. 3 trips down there from now till May makes me forget about ever having to ice Fish again. I like the north for 8 months of the year---but when winter comes I can't get enough of south florida.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | if you have the right toys, winter is a blast. when it becomes work it's not so fun. i wouldn't trade a weekend at my shack for a weekend in Florida ... i get nauseous when there's too much asphalt and concrete around me.

Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | This is going to be a long winter for me. I got bit with the muskie bug again this year mid-summer. Definitely did not get enough in to satisfy the addiction at all. I am not much of an ice fisherman either.

Agreed. Plus having a steady supply of fresh panfish, pike, and walleye is hard to pass up.

I would go as far as to say catching a big laker through the ice in 100+ FOW is as exciting as catching a big muskie.

Location: Eastern Ontario | I hope to get out for a few more trips on the Larry but the wind has not been cooperative. Yesterday I put my inland boat away and bought a new snow blower. If I don't get out again I've had a good year. Haven't bothered ice fishing for years ( my fridge makes all the ice I need i don't have to fish for it.) No interest in going south little wood on the fire and I'll sleep till spring that way the wife can't say I'm always away fishing.

Posts: 688 Location: Already Gone | I feel fortunate to have gotten the last 2 trips in up that way, Halloween weekend and Nov 7th. A tale of 2 weather patterns just those 2 weekends alone....60 degrees, and then 6 inches of snow on the UP border lakes. Wow. I was hoping for a last run up for 5 days Nov 21st., but it doesn't look good now. It was a memorable season...I feel grateful and blessed for the way things worked out overall. Hope you all do well on the hard water, Be safe.

Posts: 1220 | I think it'll be a tad on the breezy and I guess I'll consider long undies, but other than that..I'm thinking about Pewaukee or another area lake as not being too bad for Saturday morning. This is finally the time of year when only 5 or 6 guys cut you off instead of 12-15. "It ain't over till it's over!"

Posts: 255 | Steve, if you get a pic of that 49 post it or send it to me. Love to see it. Just don't tell me the girth was between 29-36" as some tend to be measuring.

Was it caught on the river up your way, or down here? If down here, will be interested to see if tagged, and or one of the fish we stocked. That's a good one. Posts: 1220 | Darn it all! Now there's ice on Pewaukee! Not the whole thing, of course, but I stopped for suckers at Smokies earlier today and guys were breaking ice to use the ramp. Fortunately, there are other ramps that are open. It's worth stopping at Smokies for the bait and then putting in somewhere else till the weather eases up. Smokies has great suckers too, some as big as anybody would ever want.
