Location: Ashland WI | Question here is about where others put their fish finders, especially on a tiller rig. If you put close to $1,000 or more into good electronics with GPS, where do you mount it? Front or back? I can see situations where it would be nice to have in both places.
Does anybody have a transducer/power hookup in the front and back, and move their spendy device as needed?
I just can't see spending the money for two separate units. |

Location: S.W. WI | I put my graph on the front deck- nearest to the rear of boat, facing me when cruising along. Then when I get up on deck to fish I swivel finder around and tilt it up. It works for me. |

So it is close enough you can reach while trolling? Or do you just set it and go, not needing to touch it? |

Location: central Wisconsin | I have a tiller, I run Lowrance front and rear. One is GPS/graph and the other is graph only. My units are interchangeable as they use the same style plug. I run the GPS in back when motoring and if I need to use the GPS feature I just switch it to the front. Takes about thirty seconds. I fish small waters. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I have a 16' tiller and have a unit in the back and on the front casting deck. If you had a big enough screen I suppose you could put one towards the front deck and read it from the back, but then you wouldn't be able to mark things or adjust the settings while underway. Same issues with having one in the back while fishing from the front deck.
I see lots of advantages to having one in the front and the back. With limited funds I might have one more spendy unit with GPS and another on the other end without GPS or anything fancy. Decide where you spend the majority of the time and put the better unit there.
Having a transducer basically under your feet from whichever end you are operating the boat can be nice too. |

Location: WI | When I had a smaller tiller I had a single unit centrally located that I spun on a ram mount. Now I have a bigger boat and I have a 7" at the console and a 7" on the bow with a down scan transducer front and back. One thing that I would recommend is getting an extra power cord for at your driving position this allows you to take the second unit and use it as a map and your other as a full-screen of sonar. Awesome for trolling. Also having sonar on the bow allows for better boat control while casting. On the lakes I fish this is crucial when working steep mid lake break lines.
Also many guys that run a tiller boat seem to fish from the back of the boat. |

It is probably 4 feet in front of me when I am cruising. I have a 5" screen depth finder on the left and a 5" screen Map unit on the right side, both on swivels. Under $500 total combined cost and decent sized screens.
My boat is only 15ft. |
