Posts: 1185 Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | What is the largest musky you have released? Feel free to post details like where you caught it (WI, MN, IL, OH, LOTW.....), what strain of Musky it was, what bait, what time of year, or even the whole "fish" story. Pictures attached would be even better! Edited by Jomusky 3/29/2003 9:10 AM

Posts: 259 | 46 1/2"s from the mighty Chip, and, all the rest. My smallest release is a tie. One from the Chip and the other from the Apple river. Both were pushing 4"s. These came on a #3 mepps looking for smallmouth, and, the other on a 8" jackpot! Hung him on one hook!

Posts: 2754 Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Extremely lucky first Muskie fishing expedition- last day of 4-day Canadian Flyin to trout water muskie & trophy smallmouth lake. (I was only one of the group fishing for muskies) She came off the top of a rock reef complex, light rain had just stopped. Pulled up to north side of the complex. Told my fishing partner there was probably a muskie hanging there eating his smallies. First cast on the top w/ a #14 Rapala Husky Jerk (metalic green) two fast jerks, fish on! No net! Hand landed her after about 6 try's. Measured her with my fishing pole. Back at the cabin the tape said she was a 1/4" in shy of 51". So talk about unprepared novices. 3- muskies that trip. Beautiful Canadian wilderness flyin lake. That evening fishing for smallies off a rock point ~ 500' from the cabin I had a follow I will remember for the rest of my life, I named her out loud- "Jesus Christ" when I first laid eye's on her. Put down the bass rod & won't ever pick it up on a muskie lake again. I was hooked. That was almost 6 years ago and here I now sit an drooling addicted muskie fisherman. Posts: 259 Location: Alexandria, MN | Mine was a 57 1/4" Monster from Leech Lake. I was fishing Halloween 1998 and it was about 60 degrees that day. I got her to roll on a Bionic Bucktail just as the sun was setting, and being all alone on the lake I left her for a while. I came back as it was getting dark, and tossed a HUGE 14" homemade black bucktail with a #7 hammered brass willow blade. and a small teaser blade out the back. She followed this to the boat, I didn't see her until she was at the boat, it was dark out, so I almost didn't even go into a figure 8, but I saw her shadow and started the longest figure 8 of mylife. I kept the lure moving and would see her now and then, but she was not "chasing" the lure, she was sitting deep and watching the lure go back and forth, around and around -- finally I got her to raise to the lures level and I took it wide and brought it back FAST across her nose, she opened up and ate it right in front of my face. I set the hook -- took a shower -- and free spooled. After a typical tug-o-war late fall fight, not a bunch of trashing, just some give and take, I managed to get a grip on her and cut my hooks. I lifted her out of the water and got a quick measurement -- Then the best part, LET HER GO! I have run the numbers and with the 26 1/2" girth -- 49.7 lbs. I think she felt like 50!!!!! What a rush. That's what it's all about -- I got goose bumps just writing this. Steve

Posts: 188 Location: Madison, WI | Two 53-inchers on back-to-back days from Eagle Lake. The first was my first 50. The net man, some dude named Hunt, was about to jump out of my boat - I think he was more excited than I was and I was pretty stoked. There was a 45 in between but for some reason no one remembers that fish! Lures - 9" Grandma and Magnum Eagle Tail Craig Edited by Craig Eversoll 4/1/2003 12:26 PM

Posts: 149 | I've released every musky I've ever caught. My 2 largest are a 48.5" caught on a bucktail in September 2001 and a 47" caught on a jerkbait in October 2002. Both from northern Wisconsin. The day before the 47 I boated 2 other legals and a shorty and missed another that was at least 45. Boat partner got a 42 one cast after I released the 47. Best 2 days of fishing I've ever had.
