Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | I decided to resurrect my 10 year old summer Gore-Tex guidewear in the Nikwax product. Now that it is seemingly revitalized I have noticed a tear in the knee of my bibs. It is a 2" long tear through the outer and inner goretex layers. Can someone suggest a decent repair? I thought about taping it, but in lieu of tearing the outer fabric moreso, it might be difficult to get at the inner goretex to tape.

And as you suggest, might be best to tape from the inside, where the goretex membrane isn't anymore exposed, but can be made so less noticeably than from the outside. I'll also look into the goretex repair shop you mention, but living in central WI, and knowing the gear is 10 years old, I think a quick and easy fix that doesn't cost a ton might be my answer. I'll check Gander Mountain for the repair kit(already have $20 in with the nikwax).

Posts: 8 | Aqua Seal. Put some fabric behind the tear and spread the aqua seal at least a quarter inch past the tear in all directions. The stuff is made to fix holes in waders. It will look like you got clear caulk smeared on your knee, but the stuff works. I have fixed waders, dry bags and rubber hunting boots with the stuff. Good luck.

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Thank you, I might even have some wader/hip boot repair around somewhere. Perhaps a dab of sportsmans goop for that matter.. I think I'll try the tape recommended for the the trip this week, and try to do a better repair when I get home.
