| Thinking about buying a new musky box maybe a new lakewood or flambeau. Would like to hear how everybody else carries their muskie baits including bucktails and spinner baits and do they take their whole arsenal or just a few select baits? Thanks in advance JD | |||

| JDESOX: I recently purchased 2 lakewood boxes in different colors 1 for clear water & 1 for stained water. I should have bought these a long time ago it is so nice to carry on the boat just what I need for the lake type that I am on, also these boxes make bait tangles a thing of the past. Go with Lakewood, not cheap but well worth the cost Get a Big One: John | |||

| I have two Plano musky boxes. I like them alot, the handle is better I think. It carries more like a suitcase versus the Flambeau where you have to grab it by both ends to carry it. | |||

| I hate to admit it.... But I usually take all of my 100+ lures in my homemade tackle box.... And it's my brother who has better luck, going with only about a half dozen lures or so... I'm working on not changing lures so often.... He primarily uses: (1) an inline bucktail, with blade color appropriate to the body of water, (2) a tallywacker-style topwater, (3) a large shad rap in perch pattern, (4) a depth raider in walleye pattern, and (5) a sluggo on a jig head. He mostly throws the bucktail, then going to the shad rap when the buck is not producing.... He carries all his lures in one relatively small plastic compartmentalized holder.... So less is indeed sometimes more! His trick is to spend more time before hitting the water, paring back on lure selection, as a function of body of water and time of year....[:sun:] | |||

| JD I actualy own all three of the top names. The flambeau is at home holding spare lures, just a pain in the you know what to carry. I also have a Lakewood muskie monster that stays in the boat all the time as it is very heavy to carry ( 40 Lbs ). This box holds all types of lures and the tool pockets are a great asset. The third are one that I have 2 of are planos. I have one for cranks and one for jerks. Now if you think you will want a plano or flambeau make sure to check out clear vision systems as their products are great and help you see every lure in your box. They actually sell a plano with their inserts included. Here is their link Clear Vision Systems | |||

| Depends on how many lures you have and how many you want to take with you on your outing. I own 4 musky plano 7910's, a flambeau bucher box (my friends call it a coffin), and spinnerbait bag that must weigh 50lbs, I am sick aren't I. Both boxes have there advantages. | |||

| I have 2 Plano boxes. 1 for top-waters and 1 for twitchbaits and some cranks that are on the smaller side. My dad made me a box that looks like a treasure chest. He made it so there are six panels in it that have notches for hooks and each panel sits in a groove so I can pull out one panel at a time. This box is full of jerk baits and larger twitch baits and cranks. And I had a friend make me a bucktail box that fits in one of my storrage areas of the boat. It`s made out of wood with notches every inch and has a handle made out of threaded rod so I can hang baits on the handle as well. The treasure chest holds about 100 baits. The bucktail box holds about 60. I think they are pretty cool because they are not only tackle boxes, they are family heirlooms. Beav | |||

| Just another way to go...and this maybe just because I tend to be somewhat of a "nomad", fishing equally out of Azrael (my killer 15.5ft Aluminum knockout rig) and my buddies rigs. Think about a big gym bag + using clear slotted plano (or other make) boxes + spinnerbait bags (ala the larger sized ones that the bass guys use). Nice thing about it is you can also stuff your extra gear into it: sun screen, un-hooking tools, rain gear, xtra line, etc... Works for me, but then again, I'm DEFINITELY not your usual muskie fisherman. Slamr[] | |||

| The plano box is good and if you get it get the clear view system for it, it's awesome. I have three of them. It's like looking into an aquarium, you can see every bait. Muskie central was running a special and may still have their info. Cabelas has a big soft sided box and with the big inserts you can get close to 100 baits in it. A little harder to get to but you can haul more baits in one box. I have two of them. I have 6 tackle boxes. I take three or four with me when I go out. I won't throw every bait but this way I am versatile and have the right bait for the situation especially on a new lake like I was on today. | |||

| I use a tackle pouch system for my larger baits and gym bag with plano boxes for the smaller ones. The pouch works out quite well. Essentially, it's like a giant shoe bag with an individual pouch for each lure. You hang the pouch on the side of the boat and it stays neat, tidy and more importantly out of the way. By the way, I even had my wife sew it up for me! Cheers, J.P. | |||

| I use a Lakewood Medium (shoulda bought the magnum) and love it! Has plenty of room for all baits. Also gotta love the tool sleeves in front and two zippered pockets for maps and junk. skee....1[] | |||

| I've always been a believer in PVC down spout tubing glued together. However, This past winter I pick up the largest Lakewood Box at Rollie & Helens and I just love it. It has a ton of room and holds your release tools on the side in a pouch and your leaders on the back side of the lid. Also seconds as a casting platform. | |||

| I won the wood Pro-Box at a Muskies Inc. fundraiser many years ago. That box works great but stays in the boat until winter. However, I have found that I can function quite well with a little Plano box that holds about a dozen essential baits. I have watched over the years and have noticed that most people use only 5 or 6 baits each day no matter how many baits they bring along! | |||

| A buddy of my Dad's built custom tackle boxes for him and me. He used a milk crate and cut it a certain way and cut PVC pipes in different sizes as well. He used 3 inch, 2 1/2 inch, 2 inch, and even smaller for Rizzo Tail and small bucktails. It works great plus they aren't a hassel to always have to open and close and don't take that much room. Good luck, BrettC | |||

| I have gone to all Lakewood boxes. I carry their Musky Medium and their Large Spinner bait box in the boat. When I take a trip to Canada or Cave Run I carry two of their five packs along that will accommodate five of the 3700 Series Plano StowAways. I use these to carry baits that I'm not sure I will use but want to have along just in case. My extra large trolling baits, such as the Ukko 40's, Legend Plows, and similar sized baits I carry in a box that Lakewood made up for me. I believe it is their model A039. It's 20" deep x 12" wide x 24.5" long. It has 21 compartments 4" x 3.5" and pockets on the side that will accommodate a 3700 Series StowAway. It also has holsters on the front for carrying my Knipex Cutters and other tools for hook removal etc. Lakewood has the best box obtainable as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I wouldn't use anything else. I'd recommend them to anyone. | |||

| JD, I have modified the Flambeu and added two eye hooks on top and a strap from a gym bag. Now I have both hands free when I carry the box. Then went to a canvas shop and had a wrap around pocket system made for my tools and extras...Total cost approx $53.00 much cheaper than a Lakewood and very durable! I can get the wrap around system for you very easily from my canvas guy if you are interested. Drop me a email at [email protected] | |||
