Posts: 2089 | One of the true gentlemen of the sport has passed. Jack was an incredible West Virginia baitmaker and was influential in many of the designs we see today.I still remember the thrill of meeting him at a show several years ago. A true Legend of the sport, he will be missed by many. Please keep Jack's family and friends in your prayers.

Posts: 278 Location: WV | Jack was definitely a character. I remember the first time I met him. I was a new bait maker and had a table set up at the WV Muskies Inc. Banquet and this man(Jack) walks up and calls me a name and laughs. Every time I saw him after that we would have a good laugh. I will miss seeing him at the shows.

Posts: 20219 Location: oswego, il | I never met the man but his shad style glider was the first glide bait I ever figured out how to work. I will catch a musky in his honor today.

Posts: 265 Location: Manitowish Waters WI | Great man. Jack treated me very well in a transaction last year and sent me a new pro type lure for free. I will be sure to cast it in his honor next time out.

Posts: 432 Location: mpls | As a lure designer myself, I cannot not stress how influential Jack was to glide bait history. One of the highlights of my bait maker career was also meeting and hanging out with Jack at the shows when was he was able to attend them. Good luck on the other side buddy, Joe [email protected]

Posts: 260 Location: Almost Heaven | Jack was a character for sure and softball was another of his passions. I have 4 of his first non sinking baits that are new in the package. Jack said they were about 30 years old. If you wanted to get Jack fired up all you had to do was mention a certain bait maker from Wv. Some on here may know who that was. Lol.

Yea......yep.....I know exactly who....a d he had a pretty good reason. Man invented more than 1 name of baits. Most people probably don't know that, but he told me that story once. Or twice..... Posts: 1 | Jack took me out on my first Musky fishing trip this past June. Within 1/2 hour, I caught a 42" musky on one of his jerk baits (round nose Halloween) Laid Jack to rest today. I'm so sorry we didn't get to go out one more time. Great Man, great baits. Edited by wvmtner 10/1/2014 5:56 PM

Posts: 1 | The family would like to thank all of you for your kind comments. I was Jack's nephew. Fishing was life to Jack. I was lucky to have spent thousands of hours in a boat with him. I will never pick up another fishing rod without thinking of the times we shared on many different waters. To say I will miss him is an understatement.

Posts: 567 | Sad news . In approx 1990-91 we contacted Jack about buying a large quantity of his gliders . We only live about 1.5 hours from his home town ( St Albans ) so he agreed to meet us at his bar . Boy what a place ! was two mobile home trailers kinda welded together with a sawdust floor in parts . He scattered about 40-50 of his stock on the pool table that day and we were kids in a candy shop. We bought 25 or 30 that day and made several memorable trips backs to " Jack's Place " the next few years . They all tended to run different as at that time he was pretty much hand carving them . But the right ONE was worth ten times what we paid . He was always pleasant to us KY guys . RIP Jack -- MD
