Gents,

I'm flying by the seat of my pants on this one.

I find that I've got a week free and want to head to Canada for some musky fishing. I've got my own boat and gear, but not a ton of money. I'm in NW Wisconsin, so drive times shouldn't be an issue.

I don't care all that much about amenities - just good fishing.

Where would you go?

thanks for any (helpful) advice.

I would roll over to st. Clair. Depending on where you go in canada fuel will add up towing the boat.

Go to Nestor Falls or Morson on LOTW. You can fill up in the US and make it to LOTW and all the way back into the US without having to fill up in Canada.

Thanks for the ideas -

I took a father and son out for a youth musky tournament this past weekend and the dad mentioned Meline's in Nestor Falls - anyone have any experience there?

Hard to beat camping at Buena Vista near Morson for a cost effective LOTW trip. 45 minutes from Baudette so no CAD gas needed for the truck. You can burn as much or as little gas as you want in the boat. Great water in every direction including near camp. Gas will be a spendy anywhere north of the border especially so on the water.

Stayed at Meline's twice, would never go back the way we were treated.

Care to elaborate on this? I've been shopping around places to go and appreciate feedback from people that have been to places I'm considering. Feel free to PM.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXX After going though my list of lakes I have to side with MuskyMidget as lake ST. Clair is just to far for one driver. Id add the Northwest Angle to the list, don't forget Green Bay and all the good lakes in Min. If I were going by my self I might just hang out in Bemidji or The Detroit Lakes for the week. GOOD FISHING TO YOU AND HAVE FUN ON YOU WEEK OFF Marv.

Big eagle lodge on eagle lake was around 670 to 700 for cabin for week. Place to lay head and fish. On your own type place. South Shore lodge on eagle is good option for couple hundred more than big eagle lodge. Better location in my opinion and good service too. Tamarack lodge on Lake of woods good location and reasonable priced. Don't have to travel far from camp to find fish. Great hosts and won't be dissapointed.

Are you open to camping? If so, you could set up a tent camp at Vic and Dot's Camp on Whitefish bay or stay at Caliper Lake Provincial park and fish on Sabaskong bay.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time, used to stay there for a week or more for over ten years or more. After they closed the
Turtle Portage Channel we quit going there as that shut us off from the North shore of Sagaskong Bay, we used to fish Stevens Bay Stony Portage Bay and the whole north shore all the way to Miles Bay that was back in the 70's some of the best muskie fishing we ever had. I'm sure Whitefish bay still holds some big fish. We had great times there. Give it a try great place . Marv.

oh I don't think that's an opinion....

let's just say one time I had a fishing guide that wasn't at the dock in the morning, then went searching for said guide and found him passed out face first on his kitchen floor....yeahhhhh

Mylies Place by Morson might have some openings this time of year. Their cabin rates are pretty reasonable and if the "Terry" is available, that's pretty cheap, and seems like it would work just fine for one guy.

I've just been to LOTW once, but we stayed there this summer based on lots of good recommendations from others on here. Fishing was slow, but it was for almost everybody I heard from. I live in NW WI too and the drive was easy.

Red wing lodge in morson would get 2 thumps up from me. Never had a single thing to complain about. Cabins and fishing were great. Reasonably priced too. Where ever you go GOOD LUCK!!!!
